Traveling with a Lantus Cat at Home?

Hey all! As many of you know, Mikey was recently diagnosed and is on Lantus. I currently work from home, so a couple of spot checks a day are easy enough, with a full curve every few days as needed. But what about those who work long shifts or travel? I'm in the running for a job that will require extensive travel: 2-3 days a week, 30 weeks of the year. My roommate can test and inject morning and evening and do an evening spot check or two, but what about during the day? I know it's not ideal, but is it workable to get only AMPS tests those days along with PMPS and spot check? If I do get the job, it won't be for a couple of months, so with luck he'll be better regulated by then, but I want to be prepared. Actually, I will be out of town Saturday for the 12 hours between injections...how worried should I be?

there are quite a few folks here that can chime in on the question...
I'm not one of them...

but I LOVE Mikey's picture...
I agree with the comment in Loose Lips that he looks like he's laughing

and best of luck on landing the job!
Binks was kind enough to go into remission before i have to return to work...
but I generally travel as well...

A timed feeder will help, especially if Mikey is like Gabby -- she eats whatever is in the bowl immediately. You may need to work out a shot system with your roommate (i.e., a "no shoot" number or when to give a reduced dose). All of this is workable.

The issue with a timed feeder is that I have three cats who don't all eat the same thing, and I worry about them getting into the wrong bowls. I have someone who could come in and give a midday snack a couple of days a week, but I don't think they could do the BG test.

Hello! I work from home, but travel a fair bit also, often 2 weeks a month. And I also have 3 other cats aside from Jetta the sugarcat. The other 3 eat Dry -which Jetta cannot have -so I feel you on the feeding issues. I've had to resort to keepig Jetta separate when no one's home. She doens't seem to mind. During the day if no one's here we leave a bowl of her food out in her room and everything else she needs. When someone gets home, we let her out and just monitor the dry food and/or put it away depending on feeding times. It's a bit of work and I'd rather NOT lock Jetta in a bedroom, BUT this way I know she's safe.
