Transitioning from Novolin NPH to Lantus

I am thinking about transitioning from Novolin to Lantus. I am waiting to see the vet about this, but I wax wondering if I could do anything now to prepare my cat for the switch.

When you transition to the new insulin, do you have to stop the previous insulin for a few days or use less insulin? Or do you simply use the new insulin on the next dose (i.e. AM dose old insulin then PM dose new insulin)? I am asking this now so I can start the process now so my cat can use the new insulin the day the vet writes the prescription.
Thank you in advance.

Novolin is a quick in and out insulin. You can shoot it one cycle, and Lantus the next cycle.

I presume you are using U-100 syringes already? That's what you need for Lantus. Get ones with 1/2 unit markings.

Has the vet talked about a dose? We can't help you with that unless you have some home testing data on a spreadsheet. Details on how to do that (and populate your signature) are in this post:

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have U-100 syringes with the 1/2 unit markings. Those half unit markings make a HUGE difference!

I made my own spreadsheet in Apple Numbers. I have not had the time to convert it to Google Sheets yet, but I will be taking those numbers to my vet though.
