Hi all!
Yesterday we travelled to Stockholm by train with the cats. It was a 7 hour train-ride and we had decided beforehand that it would be too much trouble, and probably too stressing for him, to give Gandalf his shot on the train. We did however decide that we should feed him at his regular times. He ate with good apetite but seemed really stressed by the train ride. We tested his BG before we left home and again when we arrived in Stockholm. The values where:
AMPS +6 14.7
and then at
+6 PMPS (which he did not get) 16.7
His AMPS this morning was also 16.7, I thought that it could not be right and re-tested. The second test showed 18.4 which is still much much lower than I expected because he was clearly stressed during the train-ride and we really thought that in combo with the missed shot this would bring his numbers way up. But it didn't!
I'm just wondering if this could suggest that he is actually having some insulinproduction of his own?

He is as strong as a bear or lion or whatever... He decided that he wanted to spend the night outside. Some time early morning he broke out through the catdoor which was barricaded both from the inside and the outside :banghead:, but he came inside very happy this morning hungry for his breakfast. They are worse than kids!:smuggrin:

He is still on Caninsulin because we are having a hard time finding the right syringes so we can switch back to Lantus. (Going to the pharmacy in an hour to see if they have it here or if I have to order home) But he seem to be doing okay on Caninsulin for the moment. I really want to bring his numbers down though and feel it is too scary on Caninsulin.

Hi Helena, his numbers are looking ok and he is dropping nicely into the blues mid cycle, I see you are adjusting his dose as well. Can you get a mid-cycle test today? Also - do you check his urine for ketones? Sounds as though he is feeling fine and wanted to be out partying last night!

I tried to test for ketones earlier today, it was my first time. Tried to get the test strip under him when he went but he is so fluffy so I could not se properly and did not get any urine on it. I read on the internet that you can put it against the urine in the litterbox, if you do not use plant based litter, so I tried that with two strips and they showed no trace of ketones, but I might as well have failed.
We managed a test at +4 which was 13.9. He is a bit upset at the moment because I'm not allowing him to go out yet, so I will try and dig him out from under the bed to see if I can get one more test.

I use a spoon to catch urine, you could also try a small shallow container under him or even some plastic food wrap if he uses the same corner each time.

This might help
