hello!

sorry everyone I feel like I am always posting a million questions a day and I couldn't be more grateful for all of your quick responses. I got my iPet test strips and did two side by side comparisons... the first one was 30+ difference which was anticipated.... but this evening it was almost 100 point difference (could have been a bad test?) Anyways Johnny seems to have responded well to reducing the dose to 1 unit and numbers seems to be decreasing; however is still in the blues and pinks most days. I am thinking of bumping him up to 1.5 units for 3 days to see if that will help reduce his numbers... thoughts? Also, is it normal to be testing his sugars this often (9-10x) daily... I feel like I have become almost obsessive and wondering if I am causing Johnny extra stress by poking him so many times, his poor ears are bruised (but am putting Neosporin + pain relief) to help with healing. Do they ever do insulin pumps for cats? He also seems to have lost a .4 lbs in the 3-4 days. which makes me very apprehensive.

I have to go back to work tmrw and we are moving soon so I won't be able to run home at lunch to do my afternoon check... meaning there will 3 days a week where no one will be home from 8-5 pm. I can't leave wet food out because our other kitty Russia is a piggy and is obsessed with wet food... Has anyone had any luck hiring a pet nanny to come and do afternoon feedings or is that just completely insane? How have you been able to find a balance between taking care of your cat but not becoming completely overbearing? I feel like I have almost become agoraphobic and am fearful of leaving my home .. probably stressing both John and I out more then necessary and definitely my partner.

This is quite a rambling of thoughts/questions that I need to get out of mind and off my chest. Thanks for letting me get out my neurosis and I appreciate any/all feedback.

Thank you!

Looking at the stickies it seems I should increase the dose by 1.25 not 1.50... if it is time to try an increase?

I did. Just saw your other post.... so I will keep with the 1 unit and will not increase. I think I got scared bc of the iPet reading being 100 points different this evening.

If you multiply the iPet reading by 0.7 to 0.6, you can estimate, very roughly, what a human glucometer might read. Plus or minus the 20% meters are allowed to be from what a lab would get.

See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for more details.

Hi Lauren

I assume you're giving lantus or levemir since you're posting here - it would be helpful if you put which in your signature. Neither of those insulins is dosed on PreShot numbers and both of them prefer consistent dosing. You will get much better results if you don't adjust Jonny's dose without advice until you understand what you're doing. We'll all be more than happy to help you out :)
