I'd welcome some advice please. My cat has been diabetic for 3.5 years. This past 18 months he has been on Lantus (glargine). His glucose numbers have been consistently high (20+) for most of the day, however, the vet hasn't been concerned as he has been maintaining good body weight. This last few weeks however his weight has started to drop. The vet has done a urine test, blood MOT and a fructosamine test. The urine and blood test have not found anything significant and his fructosamine test has come down from over 400 to 380. My concern is that he may be on too much insulin and bouncing. This was found once before when a frutosamine test showed that he needed an increase in insulin (his glucose was around 450) but a freestyle libre fitted after the fructosamine test showed he was in fact dropping very low and then bouncing which resulted in a reduction in insulin. It also happened at the same time of year when the weather warmed up. Has anyone come across this before where one test shows an increase needed (fructosamine) and another shows too much insulin (libre) and does anyone know if warm weather can make a difference to glucose levels? I'm very tempted to get another libre fitted but the vet I'm with currently hasn't been too successful with the applications and isn't keen to use them. Any advice would be appreciated.
