Tonka came down a tiny bit since last night's peak, but is still higher than he ought to be if his pancreas was working properly, so I'm giving him a 2 drop dose this morning (which might be even less, seeing as he decided to flinch -which he almost never does).

His vet was thrilled with his latest readings and his weight gain (put on a pound since early January) when I sent them in last night.

Thanks again to everyone who's been offering advice :)

I'm actually not sure if it was a fur shot or not. I couldn't smell any insulin on him, but it's such a tiny dose, I don't know if I would have smelled it even if none got into him. As it was, I had put in the plunger before he flinched, so he probably got most of it. Just not certain. Sigh.

Either way, he's back down to a healthy number: 4.6 (83) at +11. No idea how much lower he would have been at nadir, but if he's keeping to his usual (recently usual) pattern, his second peak at +10-+11 is roughly the same, so this could be a good place for him. I'm thinking that since I can be home tonight, I should give him the micro-dose and see where he winds up with that, since he doesn't seem to be quite ready for zero dose just yet.

1 hour till shot time, so hopefully someone will see this before then and let me know if they think that injecting him at this level is a bad idea. Thanks!

typically an experienced person will shoot anything over about 50+ on a human glucometer (68 on an AT), provided they can monitor, have supplies in case the cat goes low, and the cat isn't sick or refusing to eat.

I'd just keep checking trying to catch him under 50 on your Bravo so we know for sure he's done with insulin at that point. I can't imagine it's going to take too long to get there . . . :D:D:D

You've given insulin at 58 before - I think you'll be fine shooting tonight. Looks like he just needs a tiny bit more support. Go Tonka! :D

Excellent. I figured it would be safe enough, since I'm home tonight (and have slept enough the last week to be able to stay up or wake up to alarms if needed). Just wasn't sure what tends to happen with their blood sugars when they're this close to being done with the insulin, so the go-ahead makes me feel better about giving him his drops... Thanks folks!

Don't really understand what is happening with his blood sugars: he went up a bit at +1 (97 - food spike), then started coming down (90 at +2), and now at +4 he is rising again (110). At least I can go to bed without much fear...
