Hi all in Lantusland, yesterday was one month and our first opportunity to run a curve on him since he started Lantus on 2/7. His numbers for yesterday are posted below on his SS and I am hoping for some advice as to how to proceed after this. He is still on DM and Iams kitten. He gets fed 2 5.5 cans of the DM (one in the morning at 7 am/the other at 7pm) and 1 3 oz can (1/2 can at 3 pm and the other half at bed time around 10/11 pm). I am hoping to wean him off the DM once I get rid of the cans I have left and then switch him over to probably FF or other better more affordable brands low carb food.

What do I do now?

PS...sorry I am still trying to edit and do new posts on the same condo and cannot figure it out. If anyone can also re-explain it I would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, AGAIN!

To edit: Go to the post you want to edit and click on the "Edit" button that's located near the top right of the post. This will open the text window which you want to change. Make whatever changes you want to make to the subject line or text. Click "Submit."

To add a new post: Open the thread (we call them condos). Click on the red, PostReply button. This will open a new box for a post. Add the information and then click on "Submit."

When you want to change your subject line to include new test data or to indicate you have a question or need help, you need to edit the first post in your condo. That's the only subject line which is visible on the Board. However, if you are adding important information, it's best to add a new post vs. changing the text in your first post. (Most of us skip over the posts we've read.) If you want to bump your condo to the top of the Board, you need to add a new post to the thread.

Are you planning on following Tight Regulation or the Start Low Go Slow protocol?

Thanks for the info. I will reattempt next time. I am still unsure as to which way I should be going. I am not sure I can follow the tight protocol completely with my work hours (I work two jobs) and my commute for my first job can be tough at times due to NYC traffic. I also want to consult with my vet now that we have done Tommy's first curves for her reaction. She is quite knowledgeable about FD and is has treated other cats successfully. I will probably end up following the relaxed Lantus because of my schedule but I know that the odds to get Tommy OTJ are better with tighter controls especially since he is so young, only 4 years old. UGH!

Is that confusing enough? :-| Mimi

It sounds like getting tests during the AM cycle is going to be next to impossible. If you are able to get an "out the door" test or an "in the door" test that's not too much on top of your shot time, that would be great. Curves are helpful but getting random spot checks can be just as helpful. Are you able to get tests routinely during the PM cycle? If you can get a couple of tests (a before bed test should be routine) at night, weekends, or days off, you'll be surprised at how much you can fill in the info on Tommy's SS.

Yes I can do the spot checks randomly. Mornings can be quite hectic, but I can definitely do more after I get home at night. Thankfully, my second job at home is medical transcription and I can take a few minutes off and test him. It still takes two people to check his glucose as he doesn't really like it and BF has to a wrap a towel on him while I test him. He was not at all too happy yesterday with being poked so often, but he was definitely happy with the treats afterwards. ;-)

I will do a couple more tonight and post again tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get some idea as to how to move forward. I am anxious to regulate him, but know it will take some work.

I appreciate your thoughts and help.

I work long days during the day, and so I rely on my days off to get some daytime spot checks in, and test at night to get some more data.
Like, if you can get a before bed test, and set an alarm to get a test around +6 or when you think his nadir is, that will be helpful. Any extra randoms checks you can get here and there will help you to gather data to see how the dose is doing in his cycles, and help us to better guide you.

I just wanted to say hi!! I'm a fellow medical transcriptionist. I'm lucky (?) enough that I do it full time from home (for the past 20 years) so I can monitor Champ easily. Hopefully, you'll be able to stop burrito-wrapping Tommy once he gets used to the drill. Remember, treats at test time can make it tolerable for him. Good luck with everything!!
