We were at the vets office for over an hour and a half. Went through everything with them. They were great.

They agree with the other vet that it's likely squamous cell carcinoma. Fast growing, incurable. We would only know for sure with a biopsy. Not many options. Mass is large and at the back of the tongue. Removing it is not a good option. SCC would grow back quickly anyway and it would likely involve removal of possibly large section of the tongue - even IF not SCC. I don't want to put him through that.

We started with blood and urine work. Lets see where the rest of his body stands, specifically his CRF and then we'll decide what he can tolerate in terms of pred. Maybe slow down the growth of the mass.

As far as he's concerned, we have weeks, maybe days left with him. He's losing too much weight, not eating enough. No wonder with that mass here. He wants to, he tries but I don't think that much is getting into him.

I'll try the subqs myself for the first time tonight. Give him some bupe. And hugs. I'm so sad. i hate seeing him like this but I can't imagine my life without him.

I am so sorry you are going through this. There is a feline cancer support group on yahoo that helped me a lot. All these people are in the same situation as you. It helped me so much. Please look them up they have much information. just go to Yahoo then to groups and then look through you will find them.

Oh Sonia, I am so sorry the 2nd opinion could not be a better one for you and sweet Tom.
I hope that you did get some good info on what can be done for him now.
I've got my fingers crossed that they can help you to keep him comfy and to slow the growth.

Pats for Tom and hugs for you.

He needs to eat. So, I took a sample of dry food we were using as treats and put it in his wet soupy food.
Kitty crack. He ate and he's now purring on my lap.

I'll feed him anything right now, as long as he eats.

Absolutely. You want to make him happy. He must be thinking--oh this is delish.

So, so sorry the outcome is not brighter. It is so hard to grasp such sad news--wishing you strength for your precious kitty.

Did the subqs for the first time!

Didn't get it in properly the first time, squirted out. Then got it in, not the full amount but it's a start.
Waited for DH to get home so he could scratch Tom and support me.

I never thought I had it in me to do all this stuff.

I think just about everyone here is surprised at what we are all capable of doing for our kitties.
It's all easy enough to do, especially when the incentive is a happier cat afterwards.

Oh Sonia, I am so very sad to read this. It is true that SCC spreads very fast. I tried to treat my kitty that had that, but when it's in the mouth, it's very stressful to pill. I chose to stop and just cherish what time we had left.

Treasure every second you have with beautiful, beautiful Tom. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

I am so sorry that you got this news. I know you will love him and cherish him over the time you have left. I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

Sonia, sending prayers for some more quality time with Tom cat_pet_icon I absolutely hate SCC and my heart goes out to you that your beloved Tom has it.
