Best news is Kitty's weight is maintaining.

He still has a gum infection. No antibiotic prescribed.
Blood test.
It takes me 8 minutes to get to vet. I waited about 2 minutes.
I tested just before I ran out the door. 484. Kitty was at 537 @ +8.
The vets test came out at 356.
There is no way he had a 131 point drop in 10 minutes. If anything it should have went up.

I was told that the human testing equipment would not be accurate as it is not calibrated for felines.
I already was having concerns about the accuracy of the ReliOn I am using.

The vet is insisting on going to 2 units as based on his results .5 is doing nothing.

Now I am not sure what to do. confused_cat

A human meter typically runs 30 points or so below a feline.calibrated meter. It should be fine dor monitoring. However, it's starting ti look like yours may.be messed up.

Does the code on the meter match your strips (mine is f-4, which.matches everything so far). If not, you should be.able to change the meter code.

Try testing yourself. A non-diabetic human should read.about 100.

If still screwy, I'd return the.meter. I wouldn't change.the dose until you have acurate readinfs, but keep an eye on ketones. When you do switch doses, I wouldn't increase that quickly all at once.

It reads the codes automatically. So far the codes have been F2, F3 and F4.
I am def not diabetic.

I think that the lower dose did something, it got him out of the blacks. He's not bouncing up and down.

I would give the .5u another day, especially if you are going to exchange the meter for a new one. Once you feel better about the meter accuracy you can decide what to do.

I would not go to 2 units all at once, it's too big of an increase.

Let us know what you do about the meter.

I asked about that. They said go right to 2 units.
I raised an eyebrow to that.

I would hate to think that all the testing was for nothing. Not to mention all the money I have spent on strips.

Remember, he's your cat. If you're not comfortable with a big jump, you don't have to do it.

Oh I know.
However I have to get his glucose to a level so I can get his teeth cleaned. The gum infection has me a bit worried.

Not going to bother testing tonight.
Going to give .5 and in the morning I will run out and get a new tester.
I might go with the onetouch mini this time.

I will admit that his spreadsheet is puzzling. An infection can impact levels so that could be part of the equation.

But the raise to 2 units makes little sense to me. The best numbers he has gotten were on 12/2 on .75 The worst numbers he has ever gotten were on 1.75 Why would increasing the dose improve things?

The nice thing about ProZinc is that you can try it and if it doesn't work, go back down. But I am with Robin, I definitely wouldn't do it overnight. Not with his weird readings.

My two cents and they may be worth less than that.....

Hope you find that your meter is haywire and that helps explain his wild numbers.

Me to.
Do they have that testing solution at Walmart to check the accuracy of the meter?

I've never found test solution at Walmart.

An infection in his gums will raise his bg's, why no AB for the infection?

If he has been in rebound it could take 3 to 5 days or more for the rebound hormones to leave his system.

Have you heard that this is a marathon not a sprint before?

Problem is we dont what he is doing if the meter is faulty.

I don't know if walmart carries control solution but I would ask at the pharmacy. I have some from one of my old meters but I didn't get it there.

I would also ask about a replacement meter so you can find out their policy before you spend more.money.

Hello Sev and kitty !

I use the Relion meter and went up against the vet, the vet got 280 and I got 275..... sometimes when I get a wonkey number and recheck it I look at the strips after check and see if enough blood sucked up there!! if not it sometimes will not error but give you a wonkey number ! callies vet was pissed when I said I was home testing , then she only wanted me to check her at + 6 and no ps test she thought it was stressing callie out with all the testing ???? well callie hates the vets visits and that stresses her out cat_pet_icon also when callie had gum infection they started her on clavamoxs right away, I would tell them you want him started on something now , just my thoughts hoping for better number for kitty ! :YMHUG:

Yah I got a similar story.
Nobody was mad though. I think she knew I was not listening to her. She kept trying to stress that home testing was not accurate. Then I mention I would get a meter calibrated for cats and she said I probably would not be able to find one.
I am going back in on Thursday.

What I as told seemed ass backwards. I would think you would want an infection under control prior to doing a teeth cleaning.
I have plenty of vets in striking distance. I like the people at this one and have developed a repertoire with them. It would be a shame to have to start over again.
They also are reasonably priced.

HAHAHHA!!

Funny you should say that. They were just wrestling as well.

do they wrestle nice or not so nice ??

They wrestle nice. Some pretty funny sounds being made as well.
The Kitten will chase Kitty into a room and the Kitty chases the kitten out of a room.
Its about a 60 foot run one way from one end of the house to the other.
Fun to watch.

want to here something not so funny to me ??? I will tell you anyway ;-)

I ordered callie a new bottle of insulin from my vet on last Friday , I went there today to pick it up and they wanted me to buy a used bottle for 10 dollars off the 140.00 a new one cost and the chick behind the counter ( not a vet or a tech) was like shaking the bottle :o :? I said were did this bottle come from she said a lady who had a diabetic cat for 2 years and choose not to do anything about it just ignored it brought the cat in so sick and dying the vet tried to save it but the poor little thing died   I'm sorry but my thoughts are if your not going to take care of your diabetic cat try to find a home with someone who will or I hate even saying this have them pts right away don't let them suffer for 2 years  needless to say I said no I want the new bottle I asked for for callie, ( they didn't order it ) they just took it for granted that I would buy the used one for 10 dollars cheaper wtf sorry I just had to get this off my chest its been bothering me all afternoon I have cried lots of tears for that kitty! cat_pet_icon

oh ya when my girls fight its not so nice they get mean with each other

Sorry about your pain for another. It sucks when people do that.
Kitty and Blue play well together. Old neutered mail and a young spade female. ;-)

Ok.
Kitty hit 72 at +5. He seems to be leveling out.
I gave him and Blue their evening snack of FreshPet.
That should keep his numbers from going to low should he still be dropping.

It's just one cycle, but it looks like the increased dose did what you wanted it to do, huh? Looks like the curve on the 29th, only a little bit better. That food should boost him a bit.

91 @ +6.
Looks good. Now if we can avoid a bounce.

Anyway I am off to bed.

Cheers!!

Don't sweat a "bounce". Don't increase dose if he's higher either. Give him a chance to get used to it, and see what tomorrow brings.

Carl

I was hoping to see a better morning number. At least he didnt go into the black.
