Melody, tomorrow, why don't you go ahead and start posting in the
Lantus Forum
You'll get the most experienced people over there to help you and Tigger .
Here's some information on
Getting the Most from your Lantus Forum experience on how to post there
You do want to hold his dose at the same dose for at least 3 days.....Lantus craves consistency and should be given at the same dose both morning and night. I suggest maybe go with 2.5 for the next few days and let's see how he's doing.
If at all possible, it's really important to get at least 4 tests a day in....the 2 "Pre-shot" tests (immediately before feeding/shooting) and then 1 test somewhere mid-cycle on the AM cycle and a "before bed" test on the PM cycle. If it's not possible to get a mid-cycle on the AM cycle, it's really important to get those PM tests since most cats go lower at night
That way we'll be able to see how well he's doing on each dose.
You should test/feed/shoot (in that order) all within about 5-10 minutes. You Test to make sure they're high enough for insulin, Feed to make sure they're at least willing to eat and Shoot.
It's not as important with Lantus that they eat a particular amount before you shoot....just that they're willing to eat.....it takes 2-3 hours for the shot to start to "kick in", so you have a few hours to get them to eat too
