Hey all, I've not been on too much recently because I've been ill myself and quite busy/panicked with Toby. I was starting to get suspicious that he was losing weight despite the much better BG levels, and a recent trip to the vet confirmed that he really has lost a fair bit, and he's had a couple of blood tests done and been confirmed hyperthyroid.

He's about to start treatment via pill, and I've had a poke around on here, but I was just wondering if anyone knows of anything I should know in advance?

He's still using Caninsulin, usually only a dose of 0.1 or 0.2 (I need to do some spreadsheet updating), and eating Bozita and 100% meat liver treats (finally found some that he loves). His appetite has increased a little, but only in the last few days - it's like he heard the word and realised he could milk it  If there's anything more suited to him and his double-diagnosis, I'd be willing to feed it.

I'm interested in hyperthyroidism in general, but especially in any 'quirks' when it comes to its interaction with diabetes.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Becky,I am so sorry Toby has developed hyperthyroid problems,Bailey has pancreatitis running alongside his diabetes, and it does make life more complicated!
I am near you in Southport and interested to know what the liver treats are you have found,I have only found Lilys Kitchen ones up to press,we don't seem to have much choice for our FD babies in UK.
I hope all goes well for you with Toby,am sure by the end of the day you will have had lots of advice and support, best of luck to you both,Diane

Thanks for the kind words, Diane. Oh yes, I can imagine that pancreatitis makes everything harder, too. It's a good thing the cats are little troopers

Toby has been having treats by Applaws, these. As it happens, after struggling to find anything for him and pretty much clutching at straws with the shops I was checking, I came across these in B&M at 69p a piece. The problem there is how long they'll have them in stock for, but I guess I'll just be shopping online once they stop.
There's another brand, thrive, available in most supermarkets, but we've never actually tried those.

Thank you  I hope that Bailey is also doing well.

Thanks Becky for the info,I didn't expect such a quick reply considering how much you must have on your mind right now.whereabouts are you in Lancs? I have a B & M very near to me so I will check it out tomorrow.
Hope you have a peaceful weekend,I have forgotten what that feels like! DIane

No problem, I was camping here a bit, reading up on hyper :-D

I live in Blackpool. Someone's got to ;-) Whereabouts are you?

Thanks, same to you! I was just getting those back when the worry settled in again, but I actually feel a bit better now that I know what it is troubling Toby

Hello Becky,
Just been to B&M, they has the trout treats in and Bailey is tucking in as I write, they are going down well so will be handy to give before I take his bg,still don't like doing the lancet testing,it bothers me more than Bailes.
Asked if they will be getting anymore in as they only had the trout, they said they had continuity on them for a while,so if you can't get them near you let me know as I can post them to you,it is a big saving on the RRP!
Hope all is good with you and Toby today. Diane

They had the trout for you? Interesting. I might have a look in the other stores around town, see if it's any different there.

I still don't like the testing, either. Toby really doesn't mind his insulin injections, but doesn't like his ears touched at all, so he's not big on the pokes. Necessary evil to keep them safe though... and treats help :-D

Thank you for the kind offer. I'll take a look around town and see what I can find - maybe we can do an exchange and send some to each other, that way the boys can have a couple of flavours each :-D

We're doing well, I hope you two are too
