Hello all. Tobias is 11 and has had a diabetes diagnosis for a year and continues to lose weight. He’s down to 8lbs. He was 12lbs when he was put on 1 unit of vetsulin. He started a monitor this week and I’m noticing that the current dose doesn’t seem to do much. Do I increase it?

He’s spending all of his time in the 300mg/dl range. Usually closer to 400 when I give him the insulin and then only drops to 350 before going back up. He’s currently eating fancy feast pate.

Here’s his meter averages:

We have a Vetsulin dosing method here: BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO CANINSULIN/VETSULIN

You won't get as much help if on Vetsulin as it's not a great insulin for cats. It doesn't last very long. Regardless, it's what you have. As per the dosing method, if you are seeing number all the time over 300, you would increase the dose to 1.25 units. As an aside, Lantus or Prozinc are better choice insulins for cats.

What brand of cat food are you giving? I see combo, I presume that means wet and dry food? You might be able to get his numbers down with food better for diabetics.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are you feeding Tobias then waiting 1/2 hour before giving the dose of vetsulin?
Are you giving some snacks during all the cycles, mainly in the filet half of the cycles?
