I've tried everything. Garbage bags on seats, wee wee pads inside carrier, wee wee pads ALL OVER my back seats, and combos of these, but somehow he still manages to pee on my seat. I keep him in the back because his carrier is too big to be strapped into the seatbelt and I want him to be safe. I cannot afford to pay to get my seats shampooed every time I take him to the vet in addition to his vet costs lately. Please help.

Cat diapers?
DO THESE EXIST?? LOL. Is that too much considering he's already wearing a t shirt/onesie?? He is officially becoming like a baby LOL. Good news, I'll let my boyfriend know we no longer need to have kids. :woot:

I'm losing it. That back seat has been shampooed 3 times now (only twice due to Frosty). I also came home from the hour long drive the vet and listening to Frosty sing to me to poop on the floor from the dog. And it's hot and humid while I'm running around trying to clean up after everyone, while they are screaming at me for food :arghh: I may be having a bad day LOL.

On line you can even get washable cat diapers in fashion colours. Coordinate with the onesie. :)

Yes, I did see those... but I think I will hold off for now as they are expensive :arghh: I’ll have to figure something out by the next vet visit.

Frosty doesn’t like the onesie  he bit and scratched me while I was putting it on, and now he just looks angry. He’s usually a pretty happy guy. He did better in his t shirt. I’m washing it and it will go back on as soon as it’s dry.

Since I don’t know what news tomorrow will bring, I’ll post this pic of Frosty now because he does look adorable, and kind of funny. :cat:

My poor guy. Notice the tail going... he didn’t mind the t shirt like this. I’m gonna have to invest in more shirts for him...

He was really popular at the vet’s office today. All the girls at the desk noticed him, said he was meowing at them and sticking his paw out whenever they walked by. They loved him. He was “the cat in the shirt.” My baby.

I'll tag @LuvinThisPig

They just went cross country with Pig and she had a wonderful carrier in the back seat that was more than big enough for even a very large cat...and it was secured into the seat too.

Sounds like keeping Frosty contained to one area is about the only solution other than the kitty diapers!!

He's absolutely adorable in his little onsie….but yeah, he don't look real happy about modeling it!!

Baby diapers work well. I have a cat who has been in them for 8 or so years now due to medical issues. TomTom is 10-12 lbs and we use Huggies or Pampers, size 2 or 3.

Tubby the acrocat couldn't travel without soiling his cage. Ever. He was also notorious for projectile pooping while on the X-ray/ultrasound table. I always traveled with him in a baby diaper (size 5 or 6 in his case as he was over 23 lbs) and presented him to the vet clinic for tests in a diaper with full transparency as to what to expect if they removed it. More than one radiology tech learned the hard way that I wasn't exaggerating (hey, it was an interesting "treatment" for his chronic constipation, lol).

Surprisingly, neither cat minded wearing them. I cut a hole for the tail and put it on so the Velcro tabs are on the cat's back. I also usually add a small piece of packing or strapping tape to hold the tabs in place.

The diapers are relatively cheap and save a lot of angst!

Absolutely! The kennel I bought was crucial. I ended up opting for the Arf Pets Soft-Sided Crate (36 inch) from Chewy.com. It was definitely on the larger side, but considering we were going to be spending a tremendous amount of time in the car I felt it a necessary evil. It is a phenomenal crate! All I did was line the bottom of the crate with several Puppy Pads so nothing would leak out and covered those with blankets. The crate was large enough to afford room for a litter box as well, which helped out a lot. I simply collected the cardboard flats from the grocery store that they ship cans in (like the ones cat food comes in) and used those as disposable litter boxes. You can break them down by tearing them at the corners for easier travel and then just tape up the corners when you need them. I also found it crucial to use a good silica based litter in the box. I like the silica, such as Dr. Elsey's Senior Care Litter, because you can use a very, very small amount in the box and it is still incredibly effective. This means you minimize litter waste and mess while retaining function.

Of course, the kennel has to be large enough to accommodate this, but if you are looking at a lot of vet visits it may be something to consider. Yes, it takes up a lot of space in the car, but you can set it up and anchor it in and it will provide a sort of permanent place for Frosty in your car. It took Pig a few days to actually use the litter box in the car, especially while it was moving, but once he became familiar with the kennel and the idea of travel he quickly became a pro at it. The kennel walls are coated with a sort of protected layer which keeps moisture from passing through. Add in the extra protection of the pads and we had no leakage whatsoever even though we were on the roads some days for 17 hours.

There is a link to our Vlog of our trip in my signature (PIGS SRT VLOG) and I believe it is in the Day 3 video that I show the kennel set up extensively. @JeffJ and @Wendy&Neko really guided and helped me in setting up for our travels!

Is he peeing out the front gate? Pit pee pads on the carrier and the carrier in High sided open top box or plastic tub.

I have not read every post but I feel your pain. We have 2 cats that love riding in the car but of course TOTALLY UNSAFE. We take side streets etc. but a cat under the brake pedal just once....
Noah cannot be crated and pees every time so we wrap him in piddle pads and towels but that can only be done with another person coddling him. In the end we are never safe. You could get T-boned by a Hummer or have a rock thrown from an overpass. Get some ultra cheap bath towels and line a crate. The towels can go to a Laundromat. Did someone say cut holes in a baby diaper? That's probably as good as it gets.
In all the reviews I've seen about animal carriers it's the strap that fails, not the crate. At least you don't have the dog in the back of a pickup truck. Those people need to be poked in the eye. Good luck.

But then I won’t be able to see how he’s doing and he won’t be able to see me. and he might get hot with no air circulation esp in his onesie
Leave the top off. They are usually more at ease in a smaller space. That's why I throw a towel over the carrier.

Me again, still have not read every post.
"Pees over the sides!" So he's standing up with his butt facing up and away? He's probably thinking that's the one way not to pee where he sleeps.
"I have officially lost it...." And? We've all lost it, that's why we're here.
"But then I won’t be able to see how he’s doing". That's why it's called distracted driving. You know he's there, you just a simple meow and to tell him "Mommy's here". Does he have to be in the back? Can you move the right seat back and put something on the floor in the front? If you jam something in there with towels etc. then you don't need to strap the carrier down. It will only move if you roll the car so you could bungee cord something to keep the crate from moving vertically. Moving side to side and front to back will be impossible. AND... you might not have to take your eyes off the road if you can just poke a finger in (even if he bites) or just hear a peep. You'll have better control over airflow in the front too. Boyfriend doesn't like sitting in the back? He knew it was a package deal when he met you.
"he might get hot with no air circulation" see previous comment
"I'll let my boyfriend know we no longer need to have kids"
Oh, what a tragedy!
.......................................................................................................................................Hey, I'm on your side if it's not obvious.

@Noah & me (GA) - ha! Funny you should suggest that boyfriend is accompanying me on these vet visits :joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful:
Sorry had a good laugh there

But in all seriousness, I wouldn’t put the crate in the front esp on the floor because if there’s a crash that’s the part of the car that will get crushed. He’s staying in the back where it’s safer. Also, the crate probably wouldn’t fit there bc it’s too big. And i would rather have pee on the back seat than the front (he pees standing up and aims over the side of the crate... like a true man :joyful: so yes it would reach the seat)

If you could cure Frosty with Love - he would already be the healthiest cat on the east coast. He is such a cute boy.

I did round trip Austin to Ft Collins, Co. Leo was in a crate in the back. Pee pads in the crate. And pee pads under the crate. As a result, he never peed in the car except one time in the litter box.

For vet visits, if this was an issue, I would put in the car
cat carrier
on
pee pads
on
plastic sheeting

There is nothing worse than the smell of cat pee in the morning.

Well if you really loved him you'd get him a urinal!
Actually on the floor by the door is an incredibly strong part of the car, the beam that runs under the door sills (connecting the front and back of a vehicle) and the 'A' pillar that runs from the roof to the floor join up by your feet. I used to work in structural steel. And any airbags that pop will go off above him.
Maybe he could pee out the window. It's not like he's mooning anyone and he's naked already. Buck Naked!

That's something I tell my wife if I have to hold her purse while she grabs the 100 pound bag of cat food. "Look, I'm helping!"
I should have a talk show. Caller... you're on the air! Your cat peed in the car!!! And you're not married yet and no children. Your mother must be disappointed in you.

Ha! When I was totally single and living by myself I asked my mom if she worried that I would die alone. She said “no, I know you won’t bc you have cats.” .... nuff said.
I don’t believe in the concept of marriage (or the amount of money ppl spend on the 4 hour party plus the rock...) Would like to have a kids someday tho. Need someone to take care of me (and my cats) when I get old!

I think I got more grief than Cynthia for not desperately wanting kids. I know for sure my mom could have strangled her for not setting me straight, and for being a vegetarian. I offered my opinion once that Valentines Day and shiny rocks were a scam and was almost disowned. That has nothing to do with a cat peeing in a car but probably explains why cats seem a lot saner than the people around me.
Must not drive minivan, suck in gut, not clean toilet, pretend to not like cats. :blackeye:

I was never into the diamond craze either. And if you watch Blood Diamond, it convinces you further. Such a scam for a tiny hard rock.

Theresa wants me to put a clause in my will to give money to whomever eventually adopts our cats. Not a bad idea.

That's actually a great idea Jeff. If something happened to us and my family got here first it would be six cats straight to the shelter. My best friend down the street has a house key, knows who my vet is and which one is Noah.

Check out this site for diapers.

Also have you tried putting a shower curtain liner or plastic tablecloth down in the car, I get them from dollar store. Can hose it off or put in washer on hand wash cycle. It will hold up for a couple of washes, can't beat the price of a $1.
