Hello everyone,
Finally figured out how to attach a spreadsheet, thats the good news. I don't know what is going on with her numbers so I called her vet and she increased her dose to 2.5 units of Lantus and put her on Clavamox twice a day. She thinks she may have an infection. Her curve was done at her office on Friday, January 28 and she increased her dose to 2.00 units so this is her second increase in less than a week. I have not tested for ketones yet. How do you collect the urine? She is adjusting well to the shots and loves her grooming after the shot. Testing is hit or miss can't seem to get enough blood even with warming the ear and massaging. All in all she is coping better than I am !!

She is eating more FF than dry DM but now her poop is really loose. Any thoughts, suggestions or words of encouragement would be appreciated.
Thanks ,
Patty and Tipper

Fantastic that you got a spreadsheet up! For your dosage questions, I would post on the Lantus forum. They will be able to help. (I do know they will urge you to get some midcycle tests. Those are the ones they base dose changes on - that number tells you how the insulin is working and how low it takes him during the day.)

As far as the testing, heating the ear for 30 - 45 seconds and even longer may help at first. If you put a tiny smear of vaseline where you want to poke, it helps the blood bead up. You can also milk the ear, lightly pushing up toward the place you poked. What size lancet are you using? Sometimes new diabetics need the larger size -25 or 26 guage.

As far as the food, is there one flavor that seems to be causing the problem? You might feed only one flavor at a time to see if it's chicken or beef that is the problem. Also lots of cats have trouble with gluten, so if you can use the gluten free flavors, that helps. http://www.felinediabetes.com/glutenfree.htm
