Just wanted to pass on a tip to get blood for testing when you have a difficult time like we did.
Fold the corner of the ear over to expose the "sweet spot" and use the lancet at roughly a 45 degree angle.
Sounds simple but we never got that tip from the extensive research we have done. We have struggled for months to get a test trying all the methods that are popular including rubbing, rice, compress etc. Never could get a noticeable amount of blood to get a test result. Work the nerves, stress, sadness and frustration we went to the vet to try to come up with alternative methods to get results so we could finally give her the insulin because she had gone too long without. She went through leaving her at the very to do a curve every week or doing the libre. We brought our meter and lancets with us to see if something was wrong with either of them or it was just us. She did the test and we noticed she flipped her ear while doing it. We looked at each other and both of our mouths dropped and the lightbulb went off lol. She then explained that it makes it easier to see especially on dark colored cats, puts pressure which helps get the blood to pool, prevents the blood from going into her fur, the pull away slightly less, and makes it easier for the test strip to collect. Well, first try the next day and success! So I wanted to pass it on to anyone else who feels frustrated, hopeless and helpless like we did.
