Timing PS tests, feeding, and shots

Hello,

I'm confused. What is the best order and timing for the AM and PM? We give shots at 8 am and 8 pm so I was testing Catman's blood right before giving him his shot.

I thought I read that they should eat their main portions within 30 minutes before getting a shot but then I just saw a comment that read that they shouldn't eat within 2 hours of the AMPS and PMPS tests so now I don't know what to do tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

Hi!
Test, then feed, and shoot while Catman is eating . . . provided you have a cooperative kitty! I have seen it said people want kitty to eat a meal soon after an insulin injection, but try not to feed at least two hours prior to AMPS or PMPS, so the BG number won't be food influenced.
Unless of course Catman goes low, close to shot time.
Love the name and his looks!!

The older fast acting insulins need to you feed most of the food right away, so often suggested shooting after eating. But with Lantus being a gentler insulin, you can test, then feed some and shoot while the head is in the bowl, or soon after. And you can let them graze or feed smaller meals, which is easier on their pancreas. Ideally you would feed most of the food in the first of the cycle when the insulin is stronger.
