I have a question we have to go out of town tomorrow morning, we will be able to give our Annie her shot before we leave. My brother in law and sister in law's house just burned down and they lost one of their kitties and the others have some smoke inhalation. We are planning on coming home in the evening it is a 3 1/2 hour trip. My question is will there be a huge problem If Annie gets her evening shot late??? We are going to try and make it back in time, but we are not 100 per cent sure. Our daughter will also be out of town, so she can not give Annie her shot. Please let us know if it's okay
Thank you
Judy and Annie

i'm sorry about your family's loss. very sad.

i personally don't see a problem with the late shot. the bigger concern is the shot after that. in other words, if you give tomorrow night's shot 3.5 hours late, you will have to delay the next shot as you don't want it and tomorrow nights too close together.

another option possibly would be to give a reduced dose tomorrow night and then move the next shot out a little past normal shot time and then with each subsequent shot, work back to normal shot times in something like 1/2 hour increments, but i would wait for more experienced lantus users to chime in. i've posted in lantus isg asking for some input on this k

Hi Judy,

I'm so sorry about your family's recent losses. So sad.

Lantus likes 12-hour intervals. If Annie gets a late shot, you need to be able to continue giving the shot 12 hours from that shot, stepping down from only 15 or so minutes per day, if possible. If that's not possible, a missed shot would be better than an early shot, which would act like an increase for Annie.

I hope you will join us on the Lantus Land board. I think Annie may need an increase in her dose. I hope this link works: viewforum.php?f=9

It seems to me that her numbers are higher than they should be and she'd feel a lot better with an increase. There are fabulous Lantus dose-advisers available to help!

Take care...Janice

I am so sorry. Just wanted to pop in (saw the post on the lantus board) and send my condolences to your inlaws. How horrible.

Sending hugs.

Sorry about all of the tragedy your family is experiencing.

Shooting late isn't that big of a problem but getting back on schedule may be. First, you've got to adjust for Daylight Savings Time. If you've not done that already, you will need to give your subsequent shot 12 hours from when you actually shot this evening. You can then move your shot time either by 15 min. twice a day or 30 min. once a day.

For most of us, trying to adjust the times when you're more than 2 hours late is really hard and it's easier on the schedule to skip the shot.
