Hello everyone. I noticed, a couple days ago, that Marie started drinking from the water bowl for the first time in several months. It isn't excessive, maybe once or twice per day. But, it isn't her usual, so I decided to check her BG since we haven't done much of that lately. She has been OTJ since 2/9/22 and had only been given insulin since her diagnosis on 1/31/22. Now I am seeing these higher numbers all of a sudden. I plan to check ketones when I can "catch her in the act." She did switch from Adequan to Selensia last month to treat her arthritis. Her foods are still the same rotation of wet, low carb foods and no dry. Can anyone guide me in what to do with these new numbers? Thank you so much!

Hi Ryan,
I would keep testing ambg and pmbg and if possible I would give her a snack at +9 to see if that brings down the numbers. If the pancreas is working, it should. I think we need to see a bit more data before deciding on if the insulin needs restarting.
Did you check that Selensia does not have any sugar/ sweetener in it when it was prescribed?
I will also tag @FrostD as she is a Prozinc user and I am not.

Thank you so much for your response. Marie free feeds through the day. We just put down food regularly to keep it fresh and keep her interested. I will try more times of testing now that I see these numbers. Do you have any suggestions on when a good time to check would be if they just kind of graze?? I did ask the vet if the Selensia would affect her diabetes and she said it would not. However, I failed to look for myself. It is a mo thly injection, though, and it has been about 3 weeks since it was done. Do you think thay could still have an affect?

I think test at the times I suggested and put down fresh food at +9. If the pancreas is working , the food will stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin. You could also test three hours after the AMBG or pmbg. With the +9 meals it will hopefully bring down the AMBG and pmbg.
You would need to ask the vet about the injection. If it’s an injection though, I can’t see the point of adding a sweetener.

Okay thank you so much for the information. I'm going to try those times you suggested and maybe additional times as they fit. I also don't know why an injection would have sugar but I am certainly going to ask! Thank you again!

Okay I'll keep testing for now and adding it to her sheet.
She had a dental in February that went well. Labs were all fine in May/June. I'm picking up a copy of those tomorrow to add to her spreadsheet.
I just did somethin kind of dumb and gave her some laxatone because she gets constipated. I forgot it isn't the one we are supposed to give her because it has sugar (we have multiple kitties and I just wasn't thinking). Ugh. Guess tonight's numbers will be off.
Thank you so much for your response!
