Good Morning
I am going to start Skylar on the Tiki cat cat food and I am wondering as there are no carbs in this moist food how do I handle her insulin? Do I not give her any and go ahead and test every couple of hours or give just a quarter of her current dose. I am ordering the food from Chewy today and will most likely have it here Saturday.

Hi Betchadeb,

I suggest you add a little more info to the thread title to let members know you need Vetsulin dosing advice for the food change. It should get you more targeted replies. :)

Tiki is very low to no carb wet food-- I would suggest you have MC and HC on hand in the case you need to bring numbers up..... (honey as well)
Tiki is a great food but vetsulin can be a harsh insulin so please have the supplies you need in case kitty goes too low:bighug:

Thanks so very much for the advice. I do have supplies on hand and ready to be used if needed. I know that not alot of people use vetsulin on this site, it is was our vet sent us home with. What is the reason that you call it a harsh insulin?

I also was sent home with vetsulin (which was created for dogs---cats metabolize faster)
With vetsulin it acts quickly so kitty has to eat a good meal pre shot to ensure will not go hypo-it also does not last long enough for most cats, and testing it critical.
My boy would drop fast and hard and raise up fast as well...
I went to pro zinc which again did not last long enough although it was a bit more gentle in the drops.
Then I went to lantus and I like it very much but my boy is a champion "diver" and he has a early nadir .... we are just over a year so we just switched to levimer as it often helps to flatten the cycle out and the drops are not as extreme .... that being said each cat is different but we are hoping.
Lev also has no sting and with all of them except vetsulin my guy was really depressed.
Some do really well and even remission ..... Most cat doctors use lantus/pro zinc or lev-
