Hi Everyone!

We finally made it, I thought it would never happen!

Tigger got his first shot @ 8AM. I shot him .5units while he ate. He's feral, so he gets tweaky with any restraint, incl. testing, but he managed it. Tonight I'll try it on the counter after he eats - that may work better.

AMPS was 281 @ 7:45 (glipizide ended at 7:45)

+2 test @ 10AM is 209! That's a pretty big drop, are we doing ok?

Tigger often likes a snack +2 after breakfast - should I give him one or let the test numbers read out w/o food stimulus?

Thanks for the hand-holding!

Re: Tigger's Finally on Prozinc! Feedback on test numbers so

That's a nice safe number, maybe a little influenced by food. For reference, a 50% drop in the first 3 hours is a number to pay attention to, as it may be a fast drop. A 50% drop at midcycle (nadir) would be very nice.

No way to know if he will start responding today or if it will take a couple cycles. Just keep getting tests every so often. You can really feed him snacks, when you want. We just take meals into consideration when thinking it might be food influenced.

Sue is 1/8 - 1/4 can food for a 14.5 pound not overweight cat considered a 'snack'? That's usu. what he gets.
+4 is 238, so he's going up since +2

Re: Tigger's Finally on Prozinc! Feedback on test numbers so

The +4 could be food influenced but that's ok. In the beginning it is all about gathering information to see how things are going.

Re: Tigger's Finally on Prozinc! Feedback on test numbers so

Last reading @ + 9.5 was at 329 - higher than Tigger's normal.

I hope the PMPS @ 7:30-7:45 won't be super high. I've been relatively pleased so far. Would rather have it higher than a hypo on our first day as long as its not alot higher for him.........

I posted all Tigger's numbers in the Health forum, & will post again after the PMPS.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks for keeping in touch & all the good info - it does make sense & so far I'm not freaking out ;-)

Re: Tigger's Finally on Prozinc! Feedback on test numbers so

It's up to you, Suzanne. We normally suggest 3 cycles on a new dose before you increase. You did start on a small dose. So your choice. Up to one unit - IF you can monitor. Or two more cycles at .5 to see if he settles in.

Re: Tigger's Finally on Prozinc! Feedback on test numbers so

Thanks, Sue, your suggestion is kinda where I'm headed.
I think I like the .5 dose for now - I don't think his numbers are terrible, at least not bad enough to warrant an increase.
Tigger didn't seem to get much of a bounce off the glipizide in terms of a regular curve.
So far it seems to be the same with the insulin, but I'd rather get a pattern starting low, & make sure we don't miss a somogyi effect.
