Tigger crashed over the weekend

Tigger bottomed out over the weekend so I have reduced his levemir from 4 to 2 units per advice from the MB. I have withdrawn all dry food and have him on canned food containing <10% of calories from carbs. He gets roughly 6 oz a day but maybe more if he poaches from his roomate's bowl. They share the cattery and sometimes she doesn't finish her food. I have gotten my SS up and running and hopefully it will be attached to this post. What I notice is that his sugars are high, but not outrageously so (250-350) and no lows on just 2 units twice a day. I plan to let him settle into this dosage and then increase by 0.25unit increments if needed. I see the vet on Wed and she will draw blood again to recheck his previously very high white blood cell count( Infection or cancer, maybe lymphoma, she said. I am praying it was infection and hyperglycemia). All I have to say is that in general he looks good. His fur is shiny and not matted. He is grooming again. He is interacting and very affectionate despite the fact that I am sticking his ear 2-3 times a day. I am hoping for the best.

I think, since you reduced him to 2u, you should just keep it there and follow the protocol you've chosen...TR or SLGS. You can post in the lantus TR forum, the lev forum, or health.

Ketones are a concern, if he has an infection. I would be testing for ketones at least daily.
You can buy ketone test strips at any pharmacy.

Ditto to what others have said. A high white cell count is concerning. If they suspect a urinary tract infection, please have them perform a "culture and sensitivity" test on his urine instead of just looking at it under a microscope. A C&S test will identify the bacteria and the best anti-biotic to fight it. Read more about it here: http://www.catinfo.org/?link=urinarytracthealth Dr. Lisa has taught us all that UTI's are grossly misdiagnosed for cats.

If there is an infection that would explain why 4U didn't "crash" him sooner. I'm very glad you lowered the dose.

The crash was him being very symptomatic at 53 on July 28th. Someone in a previous post said they thought he might have been a lot lower and been on his way up at that point.
The vet was unable to get a urine spec due to the fact that he emptied his bladder all over the exam table so no sterile specimen available! She did treat him with a broad-spectrum antibiotic which I hope has made the difference. We find out tomorrow.
I will get some ketostix but hard to use when cat pees outside and I am inside. I rarely if ever see him potty.
Thanks all for looking at the SS. I will post in one of the other places next time.
