Hey ~ not liking these high numbers. Going to give it till Thursday am ~ so one more full day ~ and calling vet. My reservation is that she's still on clavomox until sat so I wanted to see when she's off the clavomox but I don't want to wait anymore. What do u guys think? The wensite said this drug can spike or hypo and tiffy is a high sugar cat So...
Agree with not liking the numbers. I think finding out if the infection is still present, or if the antibiotic is not working or is messing with the numbers is a good idea. Sorry Theresa, that she has multiple issues. It makes this sugar dance so much more difficult.
I want to confirm the dosage. Tiffy is 7.25 lbs. Can you calculate the amt of a .25 atenonol. I can ask Deb too. 1/4 is is too much. I say half of that.
Also her nadir is whacky on it. Not far from amps or pmps. Helpp
Per Veterinary Partner's page on atenolol, "Atenolol can disrupt blood sugar control in diabetic patients.". That may be part of what you are seeing.
Also, under side effects:
"Atenolol tends to drop blood pressure through its effects on the heart. This may or may not be a desired effect. Low blood pressure in a patient may appear as lethargy or listlessness. If this side effect is observed it may be well worth having the patient's blood pressure checked. Listlessness from low blood pressure would be noted as soon as within an hour of taking the pill."
According to Wikipedia, it appears to be water soluble, as it is excreted through the kidneys. If 1/4 tablet is too much for her, your best option is to discuss with the vet about having it compounded into a concentration you can measure at a smaller dose. If compounding is not available anywhere near you, an approximate dilution may be done by mixing a given amount of medicine, with a given amount of a very mushy food (ex a pure protein baby food), let it dissolve, mix very, very, very well, then measure out the dose you need. Refrigerate any unused portion.
thanks, but they will change the med. she seems okay when I shave it down a notch. she is getting better. check her number through the week, please, as she is doing okay.
