I didn't get to talk to him but he left me a voice mail about the urine he sent out. It was negative but he said he was going to send that along with some other suggestions to my vet. He said I should be giving her the same flavor FF & if that doesn't help she needs to be put on a "diabetic food" then if she continues to have problems he would suggest trying a different insulin. If all that failed he said something about some blood test....I had already quit listening. OMG!! Why do they insist it's the diabetes. Honestly, especially over the past few days, I can't complain about her diabetes. They are basing all this on that 600 # she got when we went to the emergency vet. That's not the problem. I started to call him back & tell him what her #'s have been & tell him I haven't changed a thing but then I realized I'm just wasting my breath. I was planning on taking her in for the pancreatitis test in the morning but since she was acting better last night I'm wondering if anything will show up. I will probably take her in anyway. I could just scream! cat(2)_steam cat(2)_steam

the problem with the pancreatitis test .... she needs to be having an episode for it to be positive. Payne had two tests before the third one came back positive, and her pancreas was leaking fluid. I was amazed! The vets at Davis that I used in the beginning said if it walked like a duck, quacked like a duck ..... but I kept saying her tests were negative, so I think I let the last episode get away from me because I am forever chasing ketones!! ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile Plus she doesn't have most of the symptoms, so with the two negative tests ..... a complex cat is a complex cat!!

Someone else told me that about the pancreas test. She's still not right, just better than she was. I can't decide if I should take her or not. Ugh....

When Klinger had the pancreatitis test, he had to fast for 12 hours. You may want to check with your vet to see if they also require Thumper fasts for the test.

Barbara,
I am so sorry you are having such a terrible time...
not sure about advice though,
If she is starting to act better mayber yuo should wait until it happens again,
especially from what Nancy says....
Hang in there, this too shall pass!

I'm afraid I'll miss the symptoms. IF that's what it is she only had the lethargy and fast, shallow breathing. Which she still has. She may have gotten a bit better since she went to the bedroom last night. Over the last 2 weeks she threw up twice, then 3 times overnight Friday, which is why I took her in Sat. morning. The 2 injections they gave her really helped with that. She never really quit eating other than the night I took her to the ER & the morning she threw up. I'm only stabbing in the dark about the pancreatitis since they can't find anything else. I don't have to put food out tonight & could hold off tomorrow morning until they open, that's only 1/2 hr after I usually shoot, so I could ask them. But, I'm also off the rest of the week. Ugh.....what to do??

I may have missed previously, are they sure it's not sepsis? When I get sepsis (don't ask) My breathing is so shallow and fast that the monitors in the hospital don't believe I'm breathing and ring all over the place. You actually have to be talking with me to be sure that I'm breathing. And that would account for higher BG numbers

If she is doing better and still not eating great, I probably wouldn't withhold food (unless it's no big deal, like she doesn't usually eat at those times anyhow). Just thinking if she is starting to feel better I wouldn't want to see any setback if eating is agreeing with her. I don't know anything about pancreatitis though.

That is great if you are off all week and your daughter is here! Hope you can do some fun things, and maybe she will have some good ideas too about what Thumper needs.

I'd fast her (you do need to do that for a spec fPL test) and take her in for it anyway. Even if it come back in the gray area or just below, that doesn't mean she doesn't have it. Something is going on in her GI tract, whether it is pancreatitis or something else causing nausea and vomiting. I assume they did a CBC? What about liver function and kidney function tests?

I thought they did a liver & kidney function but I will ask again. I didn't put any food out last night with the intent on taking her in this morning. I was on my way out the door but decided to check BG, it was +13.5 and I got a 523! She's never that high so I ditched the vet, fed her & shot 1 unit. I tested her immediately after giving the insulin & got 392. I can't imagine the insulin would be working on that fast. Nothing else was different overnight. I have no idea what could be going on but we will see what the day brings.

I agree with the others it could just be a wonky meter. What happens with mine sometimes is if I get too low a sample of blood it tries to read but the reading is really off. If I get a reading that doesn't make sense I usually just retest right away. Sorry the reading went so high. Shaikha used to live in those numbers before we switched to t.i.d.

How is Thumper feeling today? Any more vomiting? Lethargy? I do hope you can get some answers. I hope that our suggestions aren't driving you nuts though.

Are there any vet schools near you? That might be an option if her health continues to be a worry and you can't find vets you trust locally.

She's actually acting like she feels better. She has not vomited since Sat. morning before I took her to the vet and before that it was only 2 times in about 2 weeks so I guess that's why I didn't think anything of it. I'm set up to take her for the blood test in the morning but I wonder now if anything will show up even if she has it.
