Well, it was one year ago today Thumper was DX. I took her to the vet thinking she had a UTI, imagine my surprise when they said she had diabetes! I thought for sure it was a huge mistake. No mistake, here we are a year later & we are still fighting those numbers! The bright side is I found this board & all of you! I'm so glad I did. I truly believe she would not be here if it wasn't for this board & all the great people here. I have learned so much about cat health in general here also. My other cats are benefiting from that. Thanks to all of you for being here!

Hi Barbara - Your note just goes to show the value of this board. It also demonstrates how much "peer counseling" can help get us through the day-in/day-out events of FD - whether for our cats' direct benefit, or indirectly through our own mental health as we deal w/ the ups and downs of BG, testing, doses, hypos, ketones and everything in between.

The folks that come here w/ a medical background have such an advantage over the rest of us that maybe took a First Aid or CPR class HOW MANY years ago! But the knowlege I've gained from those here has been tremendous. It's amazing to watch people "roll w/ the punches" as their cat goes hypo... not a blink... they just do what needs to be done, and seem so calm, cool & collected!

The warmth we feel as everyone kinda checks in on everyone else each day, is like nothing I've ever experienced before. It's really cool. And the friendships we build - with people we've never met - it's like we've known them all of our lives! They've been there for us, holding our hands through whatever we're dealing with - at whatever hour of the day. What an AWESOME bunch of people!!!

Glad to know Thumper is better for you having been here. I think that's probably true of all of us. What a great place to be!

This may sound strange...but...happy anniversary, Thumper and Barbara. :-D

Then again, considering what the DXs and this board has done for our lives, and for our kitties, maybe it doesn't sound so strange after all.
