Blood test confirmed it. She was given fluids again this morning along with an injection of pepcid & sent me home with some bupe. She still doesn't seem to think it's a problem that Thumper's not eating. I however am worried about it. I am supposed to take her back there @ 8:15 tomorrow morning for fluids again & she said she might give me appetite stimulants then. She mentioned sending her to the ER to stay & they would hook her up to an IV but I didn't want to do that. I didn't think it was necessary but I'm starting to wonder now. I have tried to get her to eat but it's not working so far.

Oh Barbara!
I am so sorry to hear she isnt well and not eating
maybe let her rest after the vet visist and fluids today and hoefully she will pick up a bit tonight
Did the vet say whether the pancreatitis could be causing her crazy numbers?

Yes, that's probably what's wrong with her #'s but I didn't even ask.

So sorry to hear that Barbara :(
Sending you guys some healing and light over the inter tubes.
(((((hugs)))))

I'm so sorry to hear that. At least now you know and can start treating it. Ask the vet for some Fortiflora tomorrow, it is a probiotic but you can also use it as an appetite stimulant. She needs to eat.

I have some here but she's not having anything to do with anything....even her favorite pre DX whip cream. I made a trip to the store to get some Boar's Head Chicken breast, and believe me she knows when it's not Boar's Head, but she wouldn't eat that either. I was about to take her to the ER cause I started really worrying about how long it had been since she had eaten and you know how much confidence I have in my vet but I talked to Carolyn & she suggested trying something from the pet store that is liquid & has lots of calories. I found this stuff called Cat Sure, like Ensure for people so I got that. I managed to get about 17 cc's of that in her about 2 hrs ago & so far it hasn't come back up. She's sleeping and still won't move, I have to pick her up & carry her to the LB. I've still been giving some insulin cause BG was in the 300's till tonight PMPS was 230. I don't want to deal with ketones plus this stuff has some sugar so I shot 1 unit. I feel better now that I got a little something in her and I'm gonna give some more here shortly. Thanks for all the good wishes everybody & I'll keep you posted. I know for sure my cat would be dead if I hadn't found this board! :YMHUG:

GNC makes a pet line. In pet line they have a vitamin milk made for senior cats. I don't know about the sugar grams. Petsmart sells the GNC line. They don't have it on their website & its not listed on the GNC website either. Its a white can with a grey cat face on the front. If I remember right its over $5 a can. It might be something similar to what you are trying already.
FYI tomorrow is the last day for Petsmart friends & family day. 15% off the enitre purchase.

I hope your kitty purry feels better soon!!
Hugs & prayers for both of you.

I am really glad that Carolyn gave you something that will give Thumper some nutrition. She needs it.

Sending loving vines and snowflakes.

Sorry to have her get the complicating diagnosis but glad you will have a clearer picture and a treatment plan. Hang in there Barbara. As Kim will tell you, there is life after pancreatitis.

Barbara,
Have you ever wanted to see Alaska?

NO!!

Well, I have spent the entire weekend trying to get this girl to eat. She's still not interested. I finally got some appetite stimulant from the vet this morning when I took her in for fluids but I'm having a hard time getting it in her. I crushed it in water but she spit some out so I don't know how much she really got. I'm giving her some more in about 1/2 hr & hopefully I can just get the pill in her. I managed to syringe feed her some chicken baby food but she would only take 2 tsp, I also got some more Cat Sure in her but she's starting to fight me on that. I don't know what the heck I'm gonna do tomorrow when I can't try to feed her every couple of hours. I know she's not getting enough calories but don't know how long this can go on. I sure don't want to do a feeding tube but I'm afraid it's heading that way.

And I'm sick of people saying things like "maybe it's time to put her out of her misery" or "at some point you've gotta say enough is enough....that's a lot of money to keep spending", my mother is the biggest complainer. I'm gonna tell her that she should call her grandaughter & tell her she thinks we should put the cat to sleep cause it's costing too much money....meanwhile she has a Christmas tree with $4500.00 in crystal ornaments on it. And she's got so much crap she's trying to pass it off on my other daughter that just got married.

I am so sorry you are going through this
I know it is hard, but try to to listen to anyone else
Just take care of you and Thumper and hang inthere!
I pray she starts to eat soon!

Barbara,
Since I became "involved" in the wide world of feline diabetes, it has been my experience is that unless you've done it, you'll probably never get it. Likewise, people who don't have pets, or don't feel as bonded to them as us, they don't get it either. I've heard that too. "You spent WHAT?" "If you really cared, you'd just put him out of his misery".....all sorts of crap. It sucks. But I think it sucks most when you are hearing it from people who you'd figure would "get it", or at least understand why you're doing it.
I think you should bring Petunia over to "see" that specially decorated Christmas tree, and maybe let her "rearrange" some of the ornaments. Then when the pieces get swept up, and new ones are bought to replace them, you could say "You spent WHAT?"

Barbara, don't worry about what others say or think. Thumper is a part of your family and of course you will do the best you can for just like you would any other family member who is sick.
Some people who don't have pets have no empathy. Our pets are not an "object" to throw away. It makes me so mad every day working with pet rescue to see "owners" drop off and throw away living breathing souls at kill animal shelters because they're senior or "not cute anymore" or they're sick and they don't want to spend money to treat an animal (not because of financial hardship but because they don't value life and don't want to spend their money), it is heartbreaking to me. I wish they could see what happens in a gas chamber just once.
My pets are like my children; I will go without so they have food and medicine.
Sending love and healing vibes to Thumper. Just keep trying to get some nutrients in her however you can. I hope the flare will subside soon and she will regain some of her appetite.

Hi Barbara...as I told you yesterday...there is life after ptitis. When Kitty got ptitis she really got down, but she never completely quit eating. While ptitis is hard on kitties, it will pass. The key is to get the inflammation of the pancreas down. It will get better. I remember early on when you suspected ptitis but the test did not confirm it. I would think it is fair to assume that Thumper has suffered from it long term...this attack is probably just more severe. Once you get this attack under control, you will then know to look for the onset of other attacks, the warning signs, and the treatment. I can tell when Kitty has an attack coming on ...that is when I get the fluids out and get aggressive. After Kitty's big attack, she has not had another severe attack.

There is a yahoo group for Chronic Pancreatitis that is very well informed. I joined the group and received valuable information. It is a balancing act, as a lot of ptitis diets are high in carbs, because you want to reduce fat in the diet. When Kitty has ptitis symptoms, I feed a lot of tuna cat foods, as they are low in carbs and fats. Once the symptoms subside I go back to her normal diabetic diet.

I know it is easy to get discouraged, but ptitis is treatable and Thumper WILL get better. If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Don't worry about the comments your family is giving you regarding Thumper...they mean no harm, they just don't understand. She will get better.....fluids, bupe, and pepcid...the first tools in her treatment! Hang in there! It will get better.
