I had planned on taking her in this morning for the fPL test so I didn't put any food out. As I was getting ready to walk out the door I decided I would check BG....it was 523! She never goes that high so I ditched the vet, fed her & shot 1 unit, immediately after giving the insulin I decided to check her again & got 392. That's still high but I'm thinking maybe that 523 was just a wonky meter problem? We ended up shooting at +14 but that works out well for shooting & feeding tonight & tomorrow morning. I will be able to take the food up later so it gives me more time in the morning and she won't be without food & insulin so long. Hopefully by the time I get her to the vet in the morning she will just be at 12 hrs with no food then I can get her back home & won't be so off schedule. Just got a +2 I don't know what to think!

AMPS - 523 this was actually a +13.5
fed & shot 1 unit
+14 - 392
+2 - 413

I can't believe it got so high just cause I was late this morning...or was it the combo of being late & no food? I know she was looking for food before I went to bed last night. I have a headache..... :dizcat

My Take--523 was a wonky meter or some type of stress driven reading. The + 14 when you shot and fed was the "real" number and the + 2 is a food induced spike. It will be interesting to see if it goes lower during the day.

Hopefully it will come down.

And, if Sue wasn't at the convention --she would remind you that there is a 20 percent +/- in readings. So your +14 and + 2 are not far enough apart to be considered different.

Something like that.......

Gosh, I must repeat myself alot. Gotta watch that.

Just have a couple minutes this am. If she was starving all night (in her mind) that could raise her numbers. And it doesn't look too bad considering it was late. Once PZI is gone, it's gone so they can start shooting right back up.

Wish you could get a pancreatitis test - at least that seems to be what the FDMB "vets" are diagnosing. But then again, it is nice if she isn't showing symptoms.

I forgot to add, I finally caught her in the litterbox & got a NEGATIVE ketone reading!

I'd chalk it up to wonky meter reading, and possibly if her pancreas is pitching in after she eats, then eating would trigger her own insulin production and start lowering the numbers. That's why they often do well with small meals spread out - it lets their pancreas contribute at levels it can handle, whereas it might get overwhelmed by bigger meals.

Great on the negative ketones, YAY!

Ok, so I guess I over reacted & shot too much this AM.

+6 - 149
+11.5 - 121
+12.5 - 147
she's eating now

So, what now? I will still be up for awhile but in the AM I will need to shoot probably around 9:00 or maybe at the latest 10:00 am which will be 12 - 13 hrs from now.

+14 - 220

I will probably be shooting at +11 in the morning. I shot 1 unit into a 392 this morning, which was a weird high # for her. Any suggestions on what to shoot tonight?

It looks to me like you made a good choice this morning, I only glanced at the #s but I don't think you overshot....? It's a pain she's not shootable by +12, but when she gets good #s she gets extended duration (which is a good thing), so when you get her in good #s that's the tradeoff. B/c of the ketones, I think you need to go with the good #s, so I think you did good!

Hope tonight goes great and you get some sound sleep!
