Ok beans,
I need some help here.....When I got home yesterday, my civvie Slappy was not in her usual spot....at the food bowl... she only eats dry URG!, so she gets fed on the counter and before I leave for work, I pour 95% of it back in the bag or cover it up with a bowl to keep Remission Sugar Bean out of it....
She did not touch it! Nor did Bean
I went to the back room to find a nice hairball barf on the floor w/ food....have no idea what time that happened... know it is Slappy as she is the only furry child I have left ( Gumpy went to the bridge on 7/15/11).... While trying to adjust for the new alien - Lil Sista - putting up baby gates, moving the big girls litter box, etc.... I find 2 spots on the tile floor.....mucus?? barf...from slappy I know as she threw up in front of me on a small carpet....She would not eat, not even her FAVORITE---HOT DOGS....
When I went to clean it up, it had a light color of red, and a small red dot in the middle of the puddle. I took the edge of the towl and touched it, then rubbed it on the biggest part of the towl....it is definately blood.....the other smaller puddle was red tinted as well.
She did not eat all last night, and when I got up this am, she had left me 2 more spots...only on the carpet so I could not tell the color.... She would not eat again this am, and was just sitting by her waterbowl...but not drinking either

I guess the question is, could the blood just be because of the 'dry heaving'? Has any other beans been thru this to kinda give me a heads up???

We do have doc. appt. on Saturday in the am....but wanted to throw this out there in case I should be more worried than I already am

Hope all have a goood week end!

Shelly I am so sorry...how much more is their for you to take dear lord?????
I have a question....there ard quite a few cats on the board, including tom, who are not eating well, or at all.
could there be some food poisoning going around....in the canned? or the company in general. I mean how many cats now? and tom started his anorexia 3 weeks ago by first throwing up a whole lotta fud, then the dry heaves with mucosey foam throw up.
What gives?

I had one baby once, who threw up blood and he had a stomach ulcer and it ended with a ruptured stomach and he died.

I would consult the vet asap.

I agree- need to get checked at the vet asap. But what about the possibility that she swallowed some non food items she found in the house and it is stuck somewhere in the GI tract? Hope you get to the bottom of it soon and she is feeling better.

Hope Slappy...and you...are doing ok, and eagerly (yet patiently) waiting for...hopefully...good news.

and Casey

Update on my Slappy girl,
we went to doc. and she was 'gassed' so that she would behave and let him have a look, she had fluids, blood work (senior panel that I will know more tomorrow), blood work while there and her kidneys are 100% better than what doc thought they would be....creatinine levels great...BUN levels a bit elevated and bg was 168...he said that is probably because of all the throwing up, vet visit, passing of Gumpy, new alien Lil Sista......
He gave her a shot of antibotic, and one for throwing up..... While she was sleeping, he did scope down her throat, nothing there.... washed her little eyes as they looked just terrible, check out the small 'thing' she has on her lower jaw bone (will do surgery and send off when she is doing better).....He also crushed up a appetite stimulant and put directly in her tummy...
When we got home, she threw up! URGGGGGG!
I called him and he said the appetite stimulant and the anesthesia was probably what made her do that....but the throw up meds had plenty of time to get in her system...she bubbled the rest of the day, would not eat and thought this is not GOOOD~
This am, she actually came from under the bed, loved on me some, she is sooo week, went directly back under the bed.... I have been able to get her to eat small small bites of her favorite...HOT DOGS.... Could just do jumping jacks for that.... We will have to see how she does the rest of the day.....so far, it has stayed down but she still will not come out from under the bed.....
I dont want to loose another baby!
Sugar Bean is acting a bit better, pissed of cuz of the alien in the spare room (with baby gates up).....was going to bring them all together today but will not cuz dont think Slappy can handle all the drama that comes with that....Bean getting 2 trips outside, extra treats, and some cat nip to help???? change her attitude....NOT
She is just down right grumpy! And hates Mommy right now, did not even sleep w/ me last nite, but ate her ff this am and did ok with it last nite...... She goes by the gate where Sista is and hisses and Lil Sista is not even at the gate! ;-)
She is next to vetbean as soon as Slappy is settled....I need 2 part time jobs! eeeks

tyty for all the concern for my girls! wish me luck!

I would strongly suggest that she have an ultrasound - when my guy, Trouble, did this after some issues with his appetite, it turned out to be lymphoma - not visible by X-ray. I sure hope your situation is different. Laura

I've had 2 cats who threw up bright red blood and one that threw up the black kind. The first one is still with me 10+ years later - it turned out she was allergic to fleas, had bathed herself raw and in the process had given herself the mother of all hairballs. That in turn made her throw up so many times she ruptured a couple of teeny tiny blood vessels in her throat which produced the very tiny specks of blood. Interestingly enough, I've had that happen to myself as well after throwing up a lot from both the flu and food poisonings over the years.

The 2nd cat they were slightly bigger spots but still not larger then say a lentil or something. We think he swallowed a prescription nsaid painkiller a houseguest had lost under our sofa a few years beforehand. We found 1 pill a few weeks before, 1 pill a few weeks after. And no matter what test the vet did we couldn't find any reason for him to throw up but after we found that second one we looked them up and they will cause stomach bleeding. He was at the vet for several days, quite ill and then spent a week on subq fluids and appetite stimulants. I had to finger feed him for a few days to convince him that eating was safe again. He also got pepcid during that time. He recovered nicely and was fine until his death the next year from cancer.

The dark blood on the other hand - that was cancer and it was during the last 2 weeks of the cat's life. There wasn't anything we could do at that point.

Right now I'd say keep up with the appetite stimulant, feeding special foods, and if you're not already consider some pepcid. If things improve then it may just have been kitty food poisoning, a centipede, who knows... You can of course test further with the ultrasound. Sometimes though we never figure out for sure what happened.

Well fuzzy folks and their beans,

I never heard from the 'new vet' yesterday! :-x Imagine that!

I did see my Slappy drink some water yesterday am but no food. I went Sunday and got Olive Garden chicken as I know she loves that and she did eat a small amount very small but some, then a bit of water yesterday am....when I got home yesterday, alive she was but still not eating..... waiting for vet call.... I went to local drug store and got a syringe put a small amount of nutra-cal and admin. to her while she was in a towl....she really did not care for that action that mommy was doing but doesnt have much energy to get away....she was alive this am - sooo thankful!!!!! and I put some of Sugar Beans food in syringe again and gave her a bit...she did have more fight in her and did not care for that at all. I did manage to get an appetite stimulant in her yesterday evening as well.
I hope to hear from vet this am and will take her back in today regardless of their call to me or not.

I am not seeing any more throwing up, and did not see anymore blood in the throw up the rest of the time except that first mention of it. I am hoping that the 'senior panel' of blood work was as good as the one the 'new vet' did in his office Saturday.

I would like some feed back....... if i am to keep on syringe feeding....what is the BEST to do??????? I have NEVER syringe fed any animal so I dont know what the best thing is?? Baby food, hi cal food? Sooooo, any help is greatly appreciated!!
tytyt - have a great day!
