Throwing up after insulin shot

Hello all! I'm new here, my 11 year old boy Subie was just diagnosed a few weeks ago so we are both adjusting. (I also want to add that this forum is amazing and has answered pretty much every question I have googled since Subie's diagnosis!) This morning is the second time that Subie has thrown up right after his insulin shot. The first time I panicked and encouraged him to eat more (maybe too much in retrospect) too quickly which led to more throw up later in the day. This morning I am slowing giving him small scoops of food overtime. He's a bit quite but not showing signs of being lethargic (or anything that would make me want to rush him the the ER vet). So I suppose my question is has anyone else experienced this? Could it be the insulin, he's on lantus. Maybe it's the new food (higher protein/low carb). I will be calling the vet to let them know as well. Thanks in advance!

What insulin are yo using?
It is rare to have such a reaction to insulin but it i possible.
Have you ruled out any other changes like changing diet?

He's on Lantus. It could be the food, we're trying out new higher protein/low carb wet foods to find ones he likes. Maybe I'm over thinking this but could it be the timing of the shot? I've been feeding him, waiting until he's more than half way done and then giving him the shot (it's easier when he's distracted by his food). He'll finish his food but should I just let him eat and then give him the shot?

I shot my Patches II when she is about 1/2 finished eating. If I do it after eating she tries to bite me. I only have had vomiting 2 or three times in 1 1/2 years.
I consider the food as the cause

How many meals a day do you feed Subie? Winnie had some issues with vomiting, and it seemed to be a combination of getting too much food at once and constipation (diagnosed by stool sample taken to the vet). We went from 2 meals a day to 4 meals a day and 1/4 tsp miralax twice daily, and we haven't had a problem except a single hairball since.

New food could also be the culprit, as you suspect. I don't think it's shot timing, I give Winnie hers as she eats as well, but anything is possible.

Thanks so much everyone! Subie is being fed wet food twice a day with his shot. It has been an adjustment from his old (now I know awful!) feeding habits of being free fed kibble all day a a bit of wet at night. I will try smaller portions more often to see if that makes a difference and of course avoid the wet food that made him yak. The Vet hasn't called back yet since it's not an emergency so I will see what they say as well.

If you abruptly switched food, that could be provoking the vomiting. Also, if his glucose is unregulated, he could be scarfing 'n' barfing - eating so fast he then vomits everything up.

It is a good idea to switch gradually, about 20-25% different food each day to reduce food refusal, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Are you home testing the blood glucose? We strongly recommend it for your cat's safety.
