Mogee has developed these lumps/bumps that feel like tiny scabs nearly all over his neck area.

About a year ago, his vet believed he had mast cell tumors under his skin by some bumps I found along with bloodwork. These were not here a year ago. These have started to grow on the surface of the skin about a week ago. It does not feel like there is a mass under the scabs when I feel around them.

Anyone notice what these appear to be? Any input is greatly appreciated. He is going back this weekend to be seen.

Link below has his bloodwork from a little over a month ago. Please see photos below. (They are not near any injection site).

Unfortunately, no I haven't seen anything like that. Just some thoughts:

- Do you have other cats? Trying to eliminate that possibility, because Whispy play wrestles with our youngest cat and ends up with tiny scratches/bites in that area from play bites or bunny kicks, but even those don't look quite like what you are seeing.

- Any chance there are fleas in the house? Is MP indoors, or in/out? But it actually looks more like what I've seen in pictures as "flea allergy dermatitis" rather than the actual flea bites.

- Have you applied any medication (still thinking on the "flea" idea) to the back of his neck like a liquid flea medication?

- Do they seem to be bothering him at all, scratching or trying to lick that area?

But I am guessing that a skin scrape is in order to look at it under a microscope. Hope others have ideas, and I hope you get it figured out.

Hi, no other cats. Mogee is always indoors, never goes outside. Many on the Facebook FDMB said that they believed them to be from fleas as well which baffles me as I don't know how he would get them as he is always indoors and my place is spotless, clean wise.

I also have not applied any type of medication to him. Some also mentioned it could be food allergies. I'm not sure, he has been on Sheba paye for over 2 years with no issues.

I think they are bothering him as he seems to try and scratch at them at times and licks some that are along his side and not near his head.

I appreciate the insight. He goes in at 930 tomorrow morning and hopefully I can get some more answers then.

Seconding the allergy suggestion. The Old boy used to have skin allergies, and most of the scrapes and cuts he got actually were fro him scratching himself really hard. anything that has changed around the house like a change of products used i cleaning or in what you use to clean MP as well? Hope the vet can help you out!

Thank you all for the input. I agree, it does look like miliary dermatitis. No changes in any area of the household. Same food, cleaning products, etc. Wonder what would be causing it? As mentioned, hopefully I get more answers tomorrow!

The 'fun' thing about allergies is that it can be anything... if it proves to be seasonal, it could be something like ragweed, for example. Even if he never goes outside, things come in on you and in the air. The only way to know is to have allergy testing done. (While there is not accurate testing available for food allergies, there is for environmental allergies.)

Also note that fleas can just ride in on your pants/shoes.

The one and only time we had fleas (knock on wood) was when a painter came in a fit turns out he had fleas on his tarps, which his dogs laid on in his van. Grrrr... I’ve also heard that a cleaning service can bring them in through the vacuum cleaner bag.

Yes, sorry it has taken so long to respond.

Vet believed he was bitten by a flea, as many thought. He did not find any fleas or flea dust on Mogee but that is the conclusion he came to.

He was treated for fleas (Bravecto) and was given Clavamox to clear him up for his dental on the 15th of this month.

The rash is gone and is all healed with the exception of a few scabs still remaining.

Mogee seems to be doing much better and hoping he is even better once the dental is complete. To be honest, I am absolutely terrified for the dental. I know it is what he needs but still worries me that complications could occur.

Mogee and I thank you all for your input, help, and support!

Hello, my non-diabetic cat gets a very similar reaction every fall, and it lasts a week or two. Usually during this time, I give him zyrtec, shave the area and clean it with chlorhex to allow any scabs to dry up and breathe (he's long haired with very thick fur). The bumps usually diminish and scabs dry up/heal within two weeks or so. It coincides with the fall for us.
