Thoughts on Rudy's bloodwork?

The vet seems a bit confused. She is having us increase prozinc from 2 to 3 units 2 times a day. She thinks he is headed for renal failure, but isn't sure because we can't seem to get his diabetes under control at all.
Any thoughts are appreciated- I have no idea what is wrong with him or what I should do to help him :-(
 
The high Creatitine indicates kidney insufficiency but not that bad. Do y have any recent readings for urine specific gravity since that is a better indicator of kidney performance.
The high frutosimine reflects the poor GB controls shown by your SS.
A high, flt cure like you are getting indicates one of two things. The 2 units is too high sine I did not see any values with 1 units or 2. 2 1/2 units is too low and more is required.

I am going to call the vet and ask for the urine results- seems they didn't give me that page. I'll post it when I have it. Thank you so much- starting to stress about kidney failure, it scares me so much :-(
 
He looks to be in the early stages of chronic kidney disease. I would highly recommend you start feeding him s low carb, low phosphorus canned diet. His phosphorus is a little higher than you want and I have found, having had four CKD cats, that keeping the P lower really helps them feel better. You want to shoot for about 4.5. His USG should be above 1.040 but can vary during the day. The best time to check USG is first sample of the morning. If his diabetes is not under control and he's still drinking a lot, he will pee alot and his USG will be lower. His hematocrit is still good.

You can keep a CKD kitty stable for quite a long time by being proactive if you catch it early....and you did.
 
Thank you! which food would be best at this point for a sugar kitty and CKD? He currently eats fancy feast chicken. I am hoping that some of it will improve with the incraease of insulin? I know that his glucose is just out of control :-(
 
OMG! Fancy feast is so much higer in Phos! Ugh...I have so much on hand right now, but I guess I need to go buy some friskies special diet. Thank you so much for the guidance. I really appreciate it. I feel that I don't have a handle on what to do with the diabeties and now this.... :-( so stressed
 
Take a deep breath. The priority is just getting the diabetes a little more under control but addressing some of the CKD stuff.

I would focus on getting his phosphorus down because his creatinine and BUN don't quite warrant fluids yet. He's not anemic yet so you don't have to worry about that right now. His potassium is good. The calcium x phosphorus needs to stay under 70 so it's ok now but important just to watch it.

And while it is not CKD related, I would definitely talk to my vet about his elevated ALT. If she tells you that is normal for a diabetic....it is not. (I know because my Gracie has occasional elevated ALT and we've been to an internal medicine specialist who has assured me elevated ALT is independent of diabetes).

I know the diabetes is overwhelming but, when you are up to it, the best resource for info on CKD is Tanya's Website on CKD.

What is ALT? she is supposed to be checking with an internalist this week, so maybe that is why- not sure. Maybe she didn't want to scare me with too much info right away. I am worried because he is starting to throw up daily and he cut down on what he is eating
