I was wondering what peoples thoughts on this were My diabetic has eaten this food for 4 yrs. Hes currently on 2 units of insulin twice a day. Hes been down to one unit before on the food and even a time we thought possible remission. I admittedly do not feed wet food. He starts acting like a lunatic once i give him wet ..he bothers me incessently from that point on ..all..day. I have been feeding the merrick bg chicken.....to me it seemed low in carbs..is this food very bad for me to give???

If it's dry food, then yes, it undoubtedly is going to be too high in carbs, and the fact that it lacks moisture is not good for ANY cat. Low carb canned/wet/frozen is the diet of choice for diabetic kitties. There are only two dry foods that are low enough in carbs to be acceptable for a diabetic kitty: Evo Cat & Kitten, available at several pet stores, and Young Again Zero Carb, available online only. I tried Evo and it made my cat's BG go up but I know others have had some success with it. YAZC is good, it's expensive but you feed much less, so it balances our in the end.

When my cat was first introduced to wet food he was delirious with happiness. He started coming in the kitchen whenever the refrigerator door opened because he knew the meat was in there. It was very entertaining. Once he understood that meat was now a normal part of his life he stopped stalking the fridge. The auto feeder really helps us all so meals are provided on time.
