Thoughts on Jeddie's SS/Numbers?

I was sure he was rebounding a bit on .5u (still pretty sure). So I reduced to .15u and got a few slightly better numbers, then they started climbing, so I went back to .5u for one day and then increased to .6u. My thinking was that maybe he wasn't rebounding and just needed a little more insulin. Well, the first cycle or two on .5u had some much lower numbers and then he was right back to the mid-high, flat numbers.

I'm looking back over his SS and wondering if .25 or .35 (or .3u) might have been better?

I just don't seem to be able to get this guy to string together more than a couple of cycles of decent numbers.

Gee whiz. His numbers on .15U aren't any better than .5U, but not any better at .5U either!

My thought at this point is it's time to break out Tilly. Regardless of how quickly he went OTJ when you first got him, he clearly is not headed that direction now.

He is fairly flat though most days in the 200s at .5U, so he's getting some response. Rather than too much insulin, you probably have some resistance going on and to break that isn't the method an increased dose?

If you're game for .75U, I'd go there. No reason he should continue to sit in the 200s and with 200s on .5U dose there is plenty of room for increased dose to drop BGs. Have to go up to go back down is the logic here. I know that's a 50% increase, but he's not moving on .5U and .75U might get the ball rolling. You are home to monitor, so no worries.

Or you can stick with .6U a while longer and see if he responds with at least 100s more regularly.

Vicky, thanks for your comments. Do you have any thoughts on why he had such great numbers for the first 24 hrs after I went from .15u to .5u, but then settled back into the 200s?

I am one of those people where it "has to make sense", and this isn't making sense to me, but if there's an explanation for it, I'd love to hear it.

Maybe just a sudden burst of more insulin? Yet not enough to maintain the better numbers. Kind of lends itself to the theory of giving more insulin to break resistance. I don't have an example handy of someone doing that and succeeding (first how do you confirm you have resistance? Wasn't there a trial for that?), but if I remember right it wasn't just a quarter unit more, it was considerably more.

Maybe the Wiki has something worthwhile, I'll look.

Well, I think I'm confusing resistance with glucose toxicity. I would think his numbers would be higher though.

I would say it's simply a matter of increasing dose till you break the cycle, but you have to be close or his numbers wouldn't be this steady. Maybe stick out the .6U for a while longer before trying .75U or close to that.

It's just weird that he had virtually the same results on .15U as .5U, which leads me to think it's glucose toxicity that just needs a break through.
