Victoria is one of my shelter adopticats since April. She had her vet checkup the same month. She was napping beside me and did a deep breath and I could smell it. So I checked her teeth and she has a darker coloured gum line. Not red but a light charcoal colour. Is this normal? Dumb question huh. Just know that in an orange cat they wouldn't have an orange gumline.

Yup Maui has some dark marks on her gums and she has seen the dentist several times. Nothing has been said, so this is normal. Not sure what it's called, but I wouldn't be too concerned.

Hello Karrie (and Maverick),

I just discovered last night that my all black kitty (black nose etc etc) also has all black gums. I never thought about it before but it does make perfect sense. I have a tabby who has black spots on his nose and in his mouth so I think thats just how it works.
