Those experienced with prednisolone vs insulin

I'm sorry I don't have an updated spreadsheet, but I can briefly explain what I'm seeing.

Preshots always high, 400s or 300s. But even .2U dose brings him down to 130s by +6.

Is this a result of the pred knocking out Lev's duration? I have tried raising dose to .5U and get the same results, but more pronounced curve. If we had insulin resistance I doubt BGs would go down like that.

Yes, we are dealing with an intestinal tumor and possible brain lesion from metastasis. He had seizures before the pred. His insulin needs have gradually declined since March.

Have you done a curve AND marked when you give the pred? Maybe you need to adjust the timing between the 2 so when the pred is kicking up the bg, the insulin is bringing it down.

Can the pred dose be divided (further, if already 2/day), to have a less steep effect on bg?

Pred dose right now is 2.5mg every other day. We gave loading doses for 10 days and are down to that. Am also interested in what doses/timing others have had cancer kitties on. My aim is to keep him comfortable.

Do the swings seem to occur with when the pred was given on alternate days? Or do they happen every day?

It's every day, every cycle where I've been able to get midcycle tests. I'm considering TID dosing, even though it won't be ideal with my work schedule, I can try it several days next week though. He has lost 2 lbs so he's also at risk for DKA although we just finished a round of Baytril to prevent pneumonia since he vomited even through his nose during an enema. 6 1/2 years diabetic, I'm not about to let him go that route, he's never had ketones (knock on wood) even though he lost 5 lbs in the beginning when I didn't have the benefit of FDMB.

Thanks for the support.
