Question. Could that 18.1mmol/l from this morning count as a AMPS? Took it a 4.30 and he got fed at 5.30.
I guess it could count as the AMPS. How long after the AMPS did you shoot?Question. Could that 18.1mmol/l from this morning count as a AMPS? Took it a 4.30 and he got fed at 5.30.
The normal range of BG for a cat is between 70-120mg/dl. It is similar to that of humans, I guess, maybe slightly higher. But there’s no need to compare it with a human’s BG.What is the difference between a cats BG and a Humans? Just curious so that I don't have a heart attack everytime I think it's to low
After food 45min as he is a slow eater most times.I guess it could count as the AMPS. How long after the AMPS did you shoot?

The BG readings of a cat through most human glucometers read lower than they actually are (by about 20-30 points). The FDMB spreadsheet template accounts for this variation and has incorporated the BG ranges and color coding accordingly.
You need to worry if Thor’s BG drops below 50 mg/dl (or 2.8 mmol/L) on a human glucometer, post insulin, and boost it up with honey/karo/HC food.
You don’t have to wait for him to finish his meal. If you see that he has a normal appetite and will finish his meal, you can shoot while his head is in the bowl. After food 45min as he is a slow eater most times.
I will move his feeding time then closer to his shot time. Thanks Nimi. On my way home now to sort some things out. Will check his BG as he only had half his meal this morning and will post itYou don’t have to wait for him to finish his meal. Lantus typically takes a couple hours to onset, so you have time to get food into him.
Onset is the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream & begins lowering blood glucose. Onset begins around +2 for most cats, but for some can start a bit earlier or later too.
Update on Thor's BG 11.4mmol/l just under 5 hours after shotI will move his feeding time then closer to his shot time. Thanks Nimi. On my way home now to sort some things out. Will check his BG as he only had half his meal this morning and will post it
