I have a really quick story to tell about how one of my kids thought he was saving my life tonight. Some hyperbole I guess, but when you read the story, you'll get it because you are such incredible people. I have to do some things for myself right now but I will write later. While I am very new to this site I have posted many very long emails but you have always answered me. I appreciate it. I want to be shorter in this truly unique feline story though but it will dovetail in the FD issues we come to this board to begin with...

Anyway, the story will come but suffice to say, while I was getting my PM kit ready to care for Simmie, who was upstairs, I had an accident ... not really but to a kid it might seem like an accident. Murphy tried to save me, even though my doggie, Bud thought I was playing and walked away once he got bored.

More to come. I feel like I am one of the luckiest people on the planet. Murph and me will write later.

Thanks again for all the support you provide.
Hugs, the fam....

Lydette - Oh, wow, are you okay? Is Murphy your son? Hope and pray all is well. :YMHUG:

Edited to add: I see from your siggy that Murphy is a kitty too.

As mentioned earlier there was a story I thought you folks might enjoy and I know will act as a reminder to me in times of stress to tell me why we do what we do for our furballs.

In an earlier post I made a very small mention that I have some physical issues that at times can hamper my ability to care for my Simmie. I hate talking about it but I thought perhaps there was a segment of the board who would benefit by my disclosure.

Simmie, my current FD furball, Buddy our doggie and Murphy another feral we rescued 10 years ago were hanging out. Murph was on the top of the couch near me, Bud was on the floor being a doggie and Simmie was in another room, While walking to give Simmie his test, feed, then shoot evening protocol I had my own spasm then dropped to the floor. Buddy thought I was just playing, got bored after a minute and went to find a chew toy that was more entertaining, Simmie was content sleeping in the dusk, and Murph, who rarely wants to be away from me, thought that all was right with the world.

What happened? While Bud and Simmie kept to their business Murphy became really animated. He came down from the couch and started rubbing my face, then tapped his paws on my eye lids (I was starting to cry), then he kept walking around my head but never climbing on me like kids do sometimes when they think we are playing. For the 10 minutes before help came Murphy would not leave me, didn't fool with my hair, didn't purr, didn't do anything that one would assume was just a playful response to a 'mom' rolling around on the floor, he just cuddled.

I think he knew that something was wrong and I was stunned by his desire to try and care for me. I have already gone on much too long about this incident but we had rescued Murph from a bad situation at a b and b and we think he was paying it forward. When we found him he was being kicked by the B&B owner during breakfast. At night, around the fire pit, he would come to find food and was sweeter than anything, so much so it was hard to believe he was feral. Once we got him home and to the emergency vet we also found he has 12 BBs in his body so someone was using him for target practice.

I would do anything for my kitties or any animal. I know you all feel the same.

Thanks for listening. Back to Simmie's glucose curve!

ps - yes, thanks for asking. I'm ok.

Oh, Lydette! :YMHUG:

Your story has made me cry here at work and I just cannot reply as I'd like right now because I'm not sure I'll stop crying! I'm so glad you are okay and bless you for taking in that precious sweetheart Murphy.

oh lordie, your crying is making me cry!

Have a great day at work and my heart goes out to you and all the angels on this site.

Write whenever you want and feel free to send pms if you would prefer. I have stumbled so many times on this board already by writing way too long messages and asking for help in all the wrong places. I'm glad that maybe this true story can warm a caregivers heart. :YMHUG:

Lydette,

I have stumbled so many times on this board already by writing way too long messages and asking for help in all the wrong places.
Please let me assure you that your messages are never too long. You give as much or as little information as your feel comfortable giving and/or feel that you need to give us. I don't think you have asked for help in all the wrong places either. You ask questions as often and as many times as you need to. We all have different styles of learning and different ways to learn new information. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Please remember that we are here with not only suggestions on how to care for your diabetic cat, but to help you out when you get frustrated or stressed or just need a place to vent a bit. We've all been in sticky situations. You joined a very unique family when you joined the FDMB. I hope you realize that we support each other in so many different ways.

Remember also, the information we give is based on our experience with our own cats. We don't know your exact circumstances and how your kitty is doing. You know your kitty best. If we ever suggest something that isn't working for you, please let us know. We'll try to brainstorm and come up with alternatives.

ECID Every Cat is Different It's not just one of our sayings here, it's reality. And you have a very loving and caring cat that knew you were in distress and was trying to comfort you. What a gift you have in your Murphy. It sounds like you treasure him.

I really needed that today. You are so kind. Also, Wink looks a lot like Murphy who is sitting on my lap right now except Murph has chewed up ears, which I think just gives him more character.

As for my DC, Simmie,, the curve is going ok so far though his numbers are too high (hi 347 lo 231, 2 more pokes until the end). I will load his numbers into the spreadsheet tonight. I decided to use the Fancy Feast Broth only when I do a curve - with all of our previous discussion I thought it might be too risky as a general snack. Yet it makes him insanely happy so I figure it might be good for a full day of poking.

Hugs all!
The Family
