There might be an app for that: measuring the dose

I have an idea for an iPad app to measure the dose and I have proposed it as a senior design project for electrical engineering students. The app would take a picture of an empty syringe, then a picture of the syringe with insulin in it, detect how far the syringe has moved and calculate the dose. Does anyone know of anything similar or any other app along these lines? Any suggestions for things the students to consider or other ideas about how to do this?

Good morning Liz! Happy Saturday!
There is an apps on iPhone with something similar. Putting a ring on it & it can measure the inner diameter. I don't know the name of this apps, will ask DH & get back to you.

I think they should be able to tell from the markings how much a unit is. Then from the displacement of the plunger, they can calculate the dose (even without knowing the inner diameter), assuming that the unit marks are correct. Bubbles are a good question. They might be able to estimate the size of a bubble and take that into account with the dose.

The Iphone Apps is called "Ruler" DH said there is also an Apps called "Caliper". But he doubt the accuracy when measuring minute dosage thus we are using the digital caliper for taking dose measurement.
