I think it's now time to switch Rusty from Humulin N to PZI now that we have his diet figured out and his current NPH dose at least in the ball park of figured out. I'm looking forward to something a little longer lasting and less drastic in it's drop.

I plan to get the new juice next week (Tuesday) and would love advise on how to safely start the switch. Our vet mentioned something about doing part PZI, part Humulin at first? I have never read anything like that on this board so I think I'd rather hear what ya'll have to say. I know I will need the u-40 syringes, although I thought I saw a conversion chart somewhere around here that would enable me to keep using u-100?

Thoughts? :)

I wouldn't mix the two types of insulin. If they have different onset and nadir times, you'll be driven nuts trying to monitor the combined action. I recommend going straight to PZI on a day you can monitor frequently. You can start at a lower dose, maybe the 3 u you've been giving. You'll find using the U100 syringes to dose the U40 PZI will give you a ton of fractional dose options. If you already have U100s you don't need to buy U40s. Warning if you do: keep the U40s elsewhere so you don't accidentally use them with the chart. You'd be be overdosing badly.

I agree with Kris, one insulin will be challenging enough. PZI is a good insulin. Leo was on it for awhile, and I very carefully did the conversion. I double checked each dose. Also agree with Kriz to keep those U40 syringes somewhere else to avoid an accident.
