Yesterday Lucky had her lowest blood gluecose reading ever at 138! I was happy as it is getting closer to normal numbers! I had gotten a new glucose meter from a friend who's grandmother had just purchased a new one within two months, and then her grandmother passed away. The new meter is a Relion Prime. She said the strips were super cheap. At Walmart they are $9 for 50 of them. MUCH better than the $34 for 50 for the Tru2Go meter I had. The lancets are also rather cheap too under $4 for 100. I tested her last night because I wanted to try the new meter so there were no surprises this morning. I knew she had eaten within 2 hours ago. So I knew the reading would be high. It was. It was at 195. I wasn't shocked at all. This morning it took more than 4 tries and I got blood twice. The first time she shook her head and I lost the blood and messaging the ear didn't bring any more up. So I went to take my shower and get ready for work. After I came back and it took about 3 tries because she was trying to get away and moving her head all over the place. Finally got some blood. This time it was 196. The only thing I can think of is that I left a plate of food in her room over night so she could finish it. There was a little left. I forgot to pick it up before I went to bed. So I got up earlier probably around 4 or so and picked it up. She had cleaned all the food off of it. So I assumed it was at least 2 hours since she ate the food. I didn't know exactly when. But this morning it was 196. I'm trying not to get frustrated with the up and down on the numbers. But going from her lowest reading to the highest reading she's ever had. I just wanted to cry. I really would like off this roller coaster. I know it's only been like a week since she was diagnosed. But it seems like an eternity already. How high do the numbers need to be where she needs insulin?

The 138 was on the Relion? I hope so because the True meters frequently underestimate blood sugar and show it lower than it actually is.

So that could explain the 196 too - the tru meter wasnt "true".

Dont worry its only been a week. She may need a little insulin to bring her down but give it a little longer - you have seen a general decline in BG even though you were using the tru meter.. The trend is right even if the numbers werent.

No the 136 was on the Tru2Go meter. On that meter It's never been higher than 176. But when I tested yesterday night for the first time I knew she had eaten but was just wanting to see how the new meter worked and how much blood was needed etc. So I figured the 195 was because she had eaten. Wasn't concerned. Until I took her reading in the am when she had not eaten, at least I don't think she did. I took the food bowl up at 4 and got up at 6 so it had been two hours. I tend to get lower numbers when I take it in the pm when she's been most of the day without food. I give her 1/2 in the am and leave that for her all day. She never eats all the 1/2. Just the 3/4 of the half that's there. But by the time I come home she's probably hasn't eaten since 11 or so. So is that good? I'll take her blood in the am tomorrow. And this time make sure to take the food up and test in the am before she eats.

Last night and this morning was tested on the Relion Prime. Sorry didn't specify that in the previous post.
