Morning,

:RAHCAT

Hank ate some wet food!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!!

It wasn't much (a heaping teaspoon) but a start. I opened a can of FF Turkey wet food for kittens and sprinkled it with the "kitty candy", aka Purina Whisker Lickin's, soft treats.

I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner!!

Hank has loved this treat since his dx. I picked up a bunch of different kinds of treats for my son to give him to distract Hank so that my son could give him his shot. The only one Hank liked was the Purina.

I didn't find out until Hank came to my house that it's VERY high in carbs. I use it now just to raise his BG when needed.

I'm so excited!!!

Mel, I know I skipped a couple of steps. I couldn't find the soft kibble. I picked up some soft grain free kibble in the refrigerator section at Petsmart but Hank wouldn't try it when I offered it to him yesterday for his dinner.

So this morning I decided to go for it!

YEA! YEA! YEAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I'll monitor his sugar closely today. I did give him a little of his dry kibble afterwards. I usually offer him some more food at +2 or +3, so will try some wet food again. If Hank won't eat any, I will give him some kibble.

I know, I should go slow with the transition cause of tummy and he tends to get diarrhea easily.

Thanks everyone for all your tips! Hopefully, I can get Hank meowing and begging for his wet food soon! :-D

Way to go Hank!!!

Yeah it took some with Cassanova as well but now he is the most vocal about dinner of the bunch. The trick seems to at least getting them to try it, once they actually taste the wet they suddenly discover that not only is it edible but delicious as well. Part of the problem it seems is that cats are learned hunters, in that if momma cat doesn't teach them that wet is food they have no clue that it is food. Dogs on the other hand are born knowing what is and isn't food. That is why regardless if they have never seen a rabbit they will hunt one when they do see it. Mother Nature hard wires them to hunt, cats not so much.

So if all the cat has ever known to be food is dry kibble that is all they understand is food. So we have to reteach them what is good for them to eat. And of course it probably feels pretty strange in their mouths at first as well. They have to learn a different way to get it in their mouths, and a different way of eating, since they don't have to crunch it up.
