Hi folks and felines!
My lil gray gal Dolly (she'll be 13 this Spring) and I were members here back in 2008, when Dolly was first diagnosed with Diabetes.
Thanks to you folks here at the FDMB we got the info and support we needed and eventually went OTJ in 2009 and have kept vigilant with her diet (which is pretty pricey since we have 15 cats).
Dolly also has asthma which even with her inhaler got worse this last December and needed steroids which has us back on insulin.

We were on Vetsulin back then but we are now on ProZinc so I am getting educated on that insulin.
Her numbers aren't terribly high compared to what they used to be, ranging from 245 to 295 this morning before she ate, which is the highest it's been since I started testing on Friday.
My vet is not all that educated on feline diabetes but she is willing to work with me and listens to me. She actually asked me what dosage I thought I should start out with. I decided that since that day she was at 245 before I went to the vet I would start out at half a unit.
She was at 190 5 hours later. Does that sound reasonable to you folks?

Since alot has changed here I need to get reorganized and find the sheets to fill in with her numbers again and do a profile and all but for now I just wanted to say Hi.

Hi Carlie and Dolly,

it sounds like you are right on track. PZI is a great mild insulin and your numbers look fine. We do have a forum for PZI users that you can check out. Here is a sticky from that forum that has lots of good info on PZI: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=32799

Wonderful that you are testing. Do you feed wet low carb too?

Yes we have stuck with the wet food without "gravy" and using the food lists I got here.

After a while I did start supplementing with 3 or 4 meals of the highest protein dry food I could find since they all love the dry, and all has been well and it didn't effect Dolly's Honeymoon numbers at all but now that she's back on the juice we are weaning off it again.

Carlie,

Have you seen the google spreadsheet that people are now using? It is a great color coded tool that shows you patterns and is a tremendous help to us when you need dose advice. It gives us your history at a glance. Setting up a spreadsheet If you want help getting it set up, just ask.

So you're feeding wet lo carb, testing and with a good dose of a mild insulin. Looks like you are set!

Carlie, our stories are very similiar as my tom was otj for 2+ years and i had gradually started giving him itty bitty treats of greenie's. don't know if that's what started it but we are here again.
if you get a spread sheet up it will be super easy to track your progress.
if you want to see what i did with tom his ss is divided into pzi which we used for the last year and another page on levemir which we now use. bottom left are the pages.
it's hard to say if i over shot or not...i suspect towards the middle i did overshoot. i suspect i was careless. the result was not good with a steady stream of 5 and 600's which was unheard of in tom's entire history.

also are you sure holli does not have any infection..urinary, teeth? that could be the culprit is so.
