some one posted about their crazy cat. then cindy (mousie) showed some u-tubes on it. tom just had an episode of it. he's had them before but it's been a long time. the crazy mad dash, the shaking of the leg, the wild eyed look. this was the most severe one i've seen him have and the only time i saw him shaking his hind leg...maybe i just never noticed it before the video. he acted as if he were in pain and running away from himself. i just kept talking to him and trying to calm him down which he did. still a bit wild eyed. 1/2 hour to test time..hope this does not interfer with #'s as we are at an important time in our dosing decisions.
what was the name of that disorder?

Sorry hun don't remember the exact name but I'm assuming you are refering to the one that makes their skin twitch...I think it was hypersensitive something or other...

But just wanted to give you and TomTom hugs that everything is okay.

Mel, Max & The Fur Gang

yes mel, the skin twitch..almost like they feel pain and just want to escape their own body. it is really freaky to watch. i'd seen it on tom before. have no idea what brings it on.

FHS-feline hyperesthesia syndrome

wierd to see and yes you want to help them. fortunately if i can catch Mousie i can help her.

thanks cindy, yep that's it. i forgot the vigorous massage as i had done that for him before instinctivly. this time i was very gentle and just kind of talked him thru it with soft touches on his head.
right before i tested him a few minutes ago he was really licking his hind paw hard...the same leg he was twitching. when we settled down for the test i told him we had to have a good look at his paws.
he LOVED it! rolled over and purred like crazy while i thoroughly examined each toe. tom loves for me to pay attention to his feet! whenever i kiss a foot he breaks out into a harley davidson like purr.

Tom's okay, though, right? That makes me scared to think there's something going on with him! I love that he's got a foot thing. Too funny!

Awww... the comment about kissing his foot and getting a Harley Davidson purr was ridiculously cute!!!

oh the foot thing is totally predictable..i will video it one day for you. he's resting on his lazyboy...i get on my knees on the floor and kiss one foot, then the other and BOOM he goes purr-mania.
and the look he gives me...like he's the King and i'm just doing my job by kissing his toes!
and Kristin...it's a condition a few cats here have...never knew it until i saw the video's. it's akin to an epileptic thing i think. it always passes and i've never heard of damage resulting from it. i think it's nuerological and not in the actual body. it is scary to see tho'...it's not like the kitten mad dash around the house...it's definetly more like OUCH and running away...then extending a paw and shaking it like there is something on it...wild eyed, skin twitching..someone first thought their cat was crazy is how it first got discussed on the board. turned out a few of us had seen the very same thing.

My cat does this too! So bizarre. Lori & Cindy - what do you do with your cats when it's happening? I wonder what causes this. This could explain a lot of loud meowing times.

Tara I believe both Cindy and I did the same thing just instinctivly...I rubbed Tom down vigorously. seems to calm him...tho' this last time i was different for some reason and just gently talked to him and gently pet him. whichever is better the natural instinct seems to be to be with them and touch them if possible to calm the 'rush' of whatever they seem to feel.

yeah with Mousie all I have to do is rub/scratch her pretty good. her back gets all itchy twitchy and she runs like there's something on her back trying to eat her so i catch up to her and tell her i'll take care of it and scratch her back for her real good and it seems to stop the behavior. sometimes it takes a couple tries but as long as she lets me get to her, we can stop the attack
