I want to express my deep gratitude to this forum and it's members for helping me provide Boo with a great life for 5.5 years after diagnosis. I literally couldn't have done it without you.

When Boo was first diagnosed, on January 30, 2018, I searched everything I could to get as much information about feline diabetes as I could, same as I do for any diagnosis for myself and my family. This forum had the most complete and most understandable information, plus people who could thoroughly answer my questions, whether it was about lab results, insulin levels, food, or any other issue. The diagnosing vet had prescribed dry food and within weeks changing to Fancy Feast and doing bg checks as instructed here, he went into remission. Because of this forum, we had 2+ years with no insulin. That alone is amazing.

Around May of 2020, Boo's diabetes came back - with high levels, bouncing, and completely uncontrolled with the vet's recommended dosage. I came back here, where you good folks helped me learn how to dose based on bg levels. I kept a spreadsheet and shared it for several months until I got a handle on it, after which I continued using the method for about a 1.5 years. I only recorded the bg's on paper to save time, knowing I could update the spreadsheet if I needed more help from the forum, so my spreadsheet is no longer linked. With the method you taught me here, Boo's bg's continued to come down and I continued to be able to lower the insulin amounts. I saved tons of money on vet bills by doing my own curves. For two years, Boo only saw the vet 1x/year for his regular checkup and full blood panel. He hates traveling, so this saved him from unnecessary stress too.

When things turned south this spring, y'all were here with help and support. When asked the vet about B12 (zobiline), she'd never heard of zobiline and discouraged B12 saying something about human B12. I ignored her and bought it anyway knowing that the people here have more combined experience.

With your help Boo lived a long, healthy, happy 18 years. I will forever be grateful for that gift. Give your kitties an extra pet for me.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Boo was a luck kitty because you were truly a loving and dedicated mom. 18 years is a long good life and may he fly free now over the rainbow bridge from where he’ll continue to look over you until you meet again. They may be gone, but their love is not. It’s always with us and there will never come a day when that is no longer true. Take care of yourself now :rb_icon:cat_wings>o:rb_icon:
