I wanted to thank everyone for the support we have received this past week. It has only been a few days since Malachi has been diagnosed and everything seemed so overwhelming. I have spent much time reading and my glucometer came today. He seems better since his ProZinc was raised to.2. He has more energy and is back to hanging out with us and the other cats more. I am going to do a BG test when I get home from work to start getting the hang of it. This group has been the best and I am feeling more confident that we can get him regulated, gaining weight, and thriving again. THANK YOU

I do have one question, what do people do when they need to go out of town? My husband is retired so currently we have someone home 98% of time. (Which is great will we try to get Malachi regulated) However, in March, we may be out of the country for 12 days. Do you board? Generally, my friend watches the cats. dogs etc. but she has a horse ranch to run and I love her but I don't believe she will have the time to monitor him the way he needs to be. I may cancel the trip but would like to hear suggestions.

Hey Danielle, thank you for the update on Malachi. I am so glad he's feeling better and now that you have your meter, you can begin tracking the effects of the insulin and see how it's working for him through the cycle.

Be sure to refer to the stickies at the top of the Prozinc forum, tremendous help and information there as you go forward. Get the spreadsheet set up and start documenting that insulin and testing data. Do you need the spreadsheet instructions?

Here are some links to home testing (sorry if it's a repeat, but if not they might be helpful)
Hometesting Links and Tips

Regarding your questions about being gone and care for Malachi while you are away, I suggest that you change your title to be more specific about that to get the proper attention and input. It is an important issue and many members have dealt with it in different ways.
