Hi,
My name is Betsey and my furbaby is Clawdia. She was diagnosed this week and we are waiting for the med to arrive.
In the meantime, I would like to thank everyone for posting such informative messages and for so many links. They have helped me immensely. (other than nowhere I feel like a complete dummy!)
There is so much to learn, but I am so thankful to all of you because I know it’s going to help Clawdia and I to manage her health. Thank you again.

thank you! We are waiting for Senvelgo. I have changed her diet to an extremely low carb and it’s actually dropped her sugar by about 100 points in a couple of days. So while it’s still a bit high, it isn’t as much as it was. Thank you very much for your offer.
My biggest challenge right now is trying to get blood tested. I don’t seem to hit the right spots! I have to go back and read where somebody posted how to do it. I finally resorted to the side of her toe this morning and got a bit.! Lol. She was definitely not happy about that.

I’m still trying to figure out how to reply!
I thought I wrote one so if this is a duplicate, I apologize. How do I catch urine for ketones?
She’s a sneaky one when it comes to the potty box
Are the ketones a response to a low carbohydrate diet like Atkins is for human beings. There’s a difference I think between ketones and ketoacidosis. However, apparently neither event there’s weight loss so it must be in my opinion something to do with balancing the carbohydrates. so much to learn. Thank you so much for your help. I’m going to ask a lot of questions when I go back to the vet.

How do I catch urine for ketones?
Hello and welcome! In addition to the information Sienne posted in new treatments, you may want to read the link below if you would like to use Ketostix to test the urine for some good information and tips:

Catching and testing urine

I used to just stalk my cat Maverick when he went down to use the litter box, and was able to catch the urine with the test strip mid-stream. Not everyone is so lucky ;)

Welcome Betsey, I wanted to add that I have a general idea of when my girl pees (she seems to go after a snack given at +1, 1 hour after her breakfast and insulin shot).
I have a camera in her room where she is fed and her litter box is.
So when she eats I watch her on the camera and if she heads for the box, I head into the room grab a urine stick and as soon as she’s done peeing I dip the stick in the puddle (before it sinks into the litter) and get my reading.

I’ve also been able to catch urine from her by sticking a cup under her rear end while she’s peeing when I need it for a urine test at the vet.

I’ve read once they begin to pee, they keep peeing until they’re done, so it may be easier than you think (hopefully)!
Good luck 🍀
