I have to go out and get a glucose tester, seems like I saw something about one at Walmart but don't remember what it was. Also I saw a title How to Test but now I can't seem to find it.
I have my spreadsheet ready. I'm a little nervous but will do what I have to for Shanti.

You want the ReliOn brand at Walmart. The Micro/Confirm has 100 strips for $36 and requires the least amount of blood. The ReliOn Prime does require more blood (easier to use once you've already gotten testing down) but the strips are only $18 for 100.

Was is these Ear Testing Tips?

Thank you for your help. I looked at several blood testing videos, seems like it is not too difficult once you get used to it. My cat Shanti is pretty mild mannered, although he can't have any treats afterward just a little love might do the trick. Now to go tomorrow and pick up what I need.
Do you think most people are stressed when they first have to start? I am.

You can get the "dehydrated freeze dried treats" and give it to your kittie.......we all use them as pure protein and no carbs. Hint - the cat ones are a lot more money then the same product for dogs.......so buy the dog ones and just cut them into smaller pieces. When you get left with the leftover tiny pieces or power I mix it with some water and feed it to my guys...........they can have as much as they want of these type of treats (chicken is the favorite) as no fat or carbs.........pure protein. Then they will like the ear prick that much better as they will learn they get a treat/reward each time you prick the ear even when you miss.

Oh definitely! Just finding out our cats are diabetic is a real shock. Then there are many things to learn to help you help your cat better.

One step at a time. One day at a time.

Deep breathing exercises can help to relieve some of the stress. If you are calmer, your kitty Shanti will be calmer.

We were all nervous and stressed in the beginning. It does get easier. Hang in there.

ETA: Have you read this post yet? message from your cat

OMG YES! It was horrible! But now it is much, much easier just like everyone said it would. Took us about a week to find the best test place and routine. The prick was always less annoying compared to the warming. Mid-cycle tests were easiest because she could just be face planted in her food bowl for the whole operation.

The ReliOn micro meter was definitely easier for us compared to the first one I purchased. I use about 1/4 cup of rice in a hotel shoe polishing mitt (thank you JW Marriot) heated in the microwave for 23 sec. Don't short cut the warming step, especially in the beginning.

If you are calmer, your kitty Shanti will be calmer.

This advice, from Deb, really helped me, too.
