I’m using the alphatrak 2. Strips are $50 and I’m going through them pretty quick. Has anyone used any other less expensive strips with the alphatrak 2?

Thank you! I will talk to my vet about switching to a human meter. I definitely won’t take a chance on using other strips. I see most people are using ReliOn meters. I just looked and there are so many different ones. One is only $9 . Sounds too good to be true.
Anyone have suggestions on which model?

I use the ReliOn prime which is the $9 meter, and it works perfectly fine! Just a heads up, it’s likely that your vet might tell you that you “can’t” use a human meter and that you have to use a pet meter, but that’s not true

Many members use the ReliOn Prime ($9) 50 strips are about $9 or $10. It takes a little larger blood sample than the AT2, but the difference is not huge. The important thing is that you test consistently so you can track that little gal's progress and keep her safe. :cat::bighug:

Great thank you both. I’m going to get it! I still have some strips for the AT2 so I’ll test both for a while. I’m tracking everything!

The range for the Human meter is 50-120?

if/when you get a human meter, you might use that for tests for your own information, and save the AT2 strips for tests that your vet wants you to do to bring the results in, since many vets only want the tests done with AlphaTrak meters and AT2 strips ...

after all, you are looking primarily for the TRENDS of the test results, not the actual numbers -- since meters are allowed to have some "variance" -- even the meters the vets use ! instead you are looking for what is going on in your cat's system, over hours and days, and even weeks, so you can plan
