Hi again everyone ;)

I am still new at this, but I was wondering something. How long do you keep up home testing 3+ times per day? Do you keep testing for the life of your cat? Or do you stop once they are regulated? Do you stop if they go into remission? Just curious. Thanks!
 
i started testing Mousie in September 2006. to this day i test before any shot is given. and if ever something seems off, i'll grab the meter and test in between shots. to be honest, i very rarely do all day testing anymore. if her numbers start running consistently higher than normal or i start a new thing of insulin, then i test more so as to figure out the problem and/or in case the potency is different from one insulin pen to the next and to be safe.

a disclaimer i must throw in though is my Mousiekins is known for being extremely consistent and extremely predictable soooooo while i stopped doing curves years ago, i would never tell someone else that they shouldn't do them more frequently than i do. do i think you need to test all day long every day for years? absolutely not. what i do think is more testing should be done when first diagnosed and once everything settles into a bit of a routine, then you can lax off a bit. maybe a couple tests before shots with the occasional spot check done on weekends or in the middle of the nights.
 
When your cat is regulated, you can test a little less if the numbers are predictable and extenuating circumstances prevent you from testing, but I always tested at least 3 times a day while Bandit was on insulin. Now that Bandit is in remission, I test him maybe once every week or two, or if I suspect he's gotten into food he wasn't supposed to.
 
Mikey is prety well regulated, and I test at least 3 times per cycle, which is down form six or so. I always test at preshot, +2, and +4, and then try for a +10 or11 once a day. When I start working again, I'll have to cut the +4 during the day most likely, but personally, I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with fewer than two or three tests per cycle unless he were to go into remission.
 
When Smokey went into remission, we got to testing once a month, maybe a little longer or a little less if something seemed off. We are testing a lot now because she is so irregular (her BGs, that is not her bms :lol: ). If she were to regulate, we would probably go to 3-4 times a day.

My Bean girl is in remission. But when she was taking insulin, I always tested before shot...as you will see with her ss below, it was very dangerous not to. And of course you will also see that those +4 to +6 were important too. Without those +4 to +6, I dont think I would have know she was trying to go into remission. But, mommabean has gone a little lax, watching what she does and how she acts as to when I test. Perhaps 1 time a month to 6 wks.....

But she started hanging out at the sink and wanting some water??? So, momma tested and she is fine. I even had Louies momma come over and loan me a strip and a different tester to make sure. She had eaten within approx 2 hours before and she was only 70!! So, my meter was just fine....49 without foods.
Now the water issue, who knows just yet! I do over worry like no other! ;-)

With the hypo that we went thru with her very first successful test, I was soooo scared.

I always test before each shot but only very very rarely test in between shots. When they were not regulated, I tested in between more often.
