Hoping someone can help. After previously testing with a Libre, in recent days I have been testing with a human meter with some success. My question is, how long does it take food to raise the blood glucose level? The reason being he is very hard to test when he is ferociously hungry first thing in the morning. He will swipe at me and it’s nearly impossible to get blood when I’m here by myself. After he eats, 5 minutes later, he lays down on the couch and it’s very easy to successfully draw blood. Is this too late to test him?

It typically takes 15-20 minutes for the food to hit the blood stream. It's also OK to feed him just zero carb snacks, such as all meat freeze dried ones, while you are testing. Actually, we encourage giving treats while testing so they associate good things with testing. It's better to test first (with treats), in case you need to withhold food for a reason once you see the blood sugar number.

Thank you so much. This morning was horrible. It’s amazing the difference when he is laying down after having a bit to eat. He lets me test without a problem but get him as soon as I wake up without feeding him and he’s not happy about it!
