Testing My Other Cats

With a tip of the hat to Robin-S, I too decided to test my other cats this afternoon using my ReliOn meter. It wasn't just for the heck of it though; it was because they ALL have been drinking a lot of water lately. Well, here's the rundown:
Big Red = 50
Woolly B = 65
Tennessee Tuxedo = 55
Punkin Pie = 34

Okay, I totally realize Punkin's is BAD on the hypo side. I gave him some of the Friskies mixed grill that I won't feed to Long John AND laced it with honey. God love him! What about the others though? I would say they were in the low normal range but I'm new to this and don't trust myself. I fed them ALL the mixed grill though.

As I stated in another post, I haven't tested Rosalee yet. I'll need my husband for that...and probably some kevlar gloves.

Should I keep monitoring Punkin for hypOglycemia?

These cats are not on insulin, right? If so, there is little danger of hypo. Some cats run in the 30-40 range as their normal pattern. There are other things that might cause low blood glucose levels, but if she is doing well otherwise, I don't think I'd worry.

If you're using an over the counter, human or pet glucometer, remember that these may read +/- 20% around the 'trueK test value.
When in doubt re-test.

Also just got Rosalee's which was 58, and this was the "borderline" diabetic diagnosed several years ago.

I'm going with the idea that they're all in the low normal range, which means they can be fed the mixed grill that I can't feed Long John. ALL of them can. I've been trying to keep them all separated when feeding because I didn't know their status. Now, I can feed them all the canned food.

BTW, I accidentally poked myself doing one of the tests so I took my own. I got a 126, which TOTALLY normal (I tend toward hypoglycemia).

If that 126 you got on yourself was a fasting BG reading, that puts you in the pre-diabetic range. Human BG's should be under 100. 100-125 is considered to be pre-diabetic by the ADA (American Diabetes Association) http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/diagnosis/
